Choosing the most flattering swimsuits for your body type is easy if you know what suits you and what doesn’t. From the curvy girl to the most athletic of figures, it can be difficult to choose the right swimwear. There’s too much choice, too; so many colours, prints and styles! We are here to help! We hope this quick guide helps you make the right decision about your swimwear. Check out your body type below to find out what swimwear will flatter your body shape the most. Pear Shaped If you have a classic pear shape, then you will have a small top and your legs and hips will be a little larger. By far the best thing is to buy a swimsuit that has a straight edge skirt or a lower leg. You don’t want something with lots of material as this will draw more attention to the lower part of your body. If you’re going to wear flouncy swimwear make sure you have the flounce at the top to give a much evener balance. Failing that, go for a plunging neckline. This will work a treat as it tends to draw the eye to the bust area rather than the bottom and thighs. If you don’t dare to wear a plunged neckline, you can go for the “mocked-up” version of the Anita Comfort Florintina swimsuit in the picture above. Apple Shaped This usually means you have a slightly more rounded figure. The best way to disguise this would be to wear a full swimsuit that has panels down each side, running from under the arms to the bottom of the swimsuit. If these panels are darker than the rest of the suit, then it gives the illusion that you have a slenderer waist. Vertically striped swimsuits help as well so if you can find swimwear that has this kind of pattern then it will help to elongate your figure. Sheering across the tummy will work wonders and if you’re moving around a lot try a wrap that fixes at the waist. This will cut across the problem areas such as your tummy and give you a much more defined waistline. Athletic Athletic usually means you’re straight up and down. There are many great solutions to this if you’re prepared to look for the right swimwear. Go for monokinis and swimwear that has cut out. This will exaggerate your curves and help them look more than they are. Ruffles and bold prints also have the same effect on athletic body shapes. Steer clear of block colours. Look for tie sided bikinis as they draw the eye to the hips and make them look fuller. Curves matter! There’s really something quite gorgeous about a curvy woman. Kim Kardashian has made her mark this way and she’s a prime example of the beauty of a curvy girl. Block-coloured swimwear will give you the best look. We love a good Little Black Swimsuit to shape your curves, but don’t be afraid of wearing bright colours, too. Try to steer clear of monokinis. They will exaggerate your curves too much and draw the eye to the thickest part of your legs. Halter neck swimwear is good as well because it draws the eye higher. Halter necklines are truly flattering! Larger Bust If you’re quite well endowed up top, then support is essential. Look for swimwear that has underwires or secret shelves in the swimsuit. Try to avoid flouncy, ruffles and embellishments up top. This will draw attention to your chest. For more support go for a bra style top to your swimwear. There are always lots of choices when it comes to this style of swimwear. An underwired swimsuit will give you much more support. Look for thicker straps, too, as they tend to give more support as well as a deep wing to the bikini. You could also look at wearing a higher back swimsuit. They tend to fit better and give much more support to the bust. Smaller Bust A smaller bust needs less support and this means you can get away with wearing more embellishment and flounce on your bikini top or swimsuit. Many women with a small bust choose swimwear with padded cups or moulded cups. Did you know you can even find some push-up swimwear these days? If you are into plunged swimwear, there are also many bikinis and swimsuits that have a padded plunge top, which helps a great deal as do triangle bikini tops. Try wearing bandeau tops, which is the perfect style for small busts. If you want to read more about what are the best swimsuits for your body type, you can check out our in-depth guide to body shapes, where you’ll find more information for your particular body shape. You can also take a quick look at the UK Swimwear’s guide to buying swimwear for rectangle body shapes, as most women in the UK seem to have this body type. Happy shopping!
New season, new fashion trends. Do you know what’s going to be hot this season? We have analysed every single style at Miami Swim Show, the world’s No.1 fashion show for swimwear, and discussed it with a large number of swimwear retailers and fashion stylists. Do you want to know what are the top Spring Summer 2020 swimwear trends? Keep reading! Bikinis and swimsuits, back to the 90s style Source: Thomas Concordia/Getty Images for Gottex Is the swimming world back to the 90s? That’s what we thought when we first saw Gottex’s 2020 collection for the first time. This style above, in particular, Gottex Lily High Leg Swimsuit, brings back some 90’s vibes because of the ties, which allow you to show off curves. A high leg cut like this makes your legs look longer, so it’s ideal for shorter women. This swimsuit also puts together two more Spring Summer 2020 swimwear trends: Floral prints: More 70’s than the 90s, florals are, along with the geometric prints, huge in 2020. We just can’t help it. We love a good floral print! Tank swimsuits: For 2020, less is more. Minimal tank swimsuits seem to have their moment in the sun. Gottex Profile has some gorgeous tank swimsuits if you fancy a look. And, back to the 90s style. Aside from the tie-front bikini tops and tie-side bikini bottoms, there’s another trend from the 90s we’ve spotted: the deep V neckline. Just like this picture below. The deep V neckline isn’t the only neckline style that’s on-trend at the moment. The one-shoulder swimsuit is still hot for 2020 and, following this minimal swimwear trend we mentioned before, strapless swimsuits are similarly hot. To be fair, there isn’t a single neckline style that will lead the spring-summer season, like previous years. 2020 is all about diversity. Spring Summer 2020 swimwear is more diverse We aren’t the only ones who think so. Harper’s Bazaar agrees with us that the swimwear world seems to move towards a more inclusive and diverse world. Not only size-inclusive, with plus-size models and a larger range of DD+ swimwear, swimsuits for taller women and bikinis and swimsuits for the larger sizes, but also modest swimwear, tankinis and swim dresses, for those who don’t want to show too much skin. 2020 is the season to feel comfortable and look gorgeous in swimwear Comfort over style. That’s the motto for spring-summer 2020. For example, long-sleeved swimsuits and high-neck swimsuits were unthinkable in the past, but, nowadays, they are now a must-have for many women. After all, these offer more protection against sun rays (essential if you are off to some snorkelling or surf holidays). With the addition of embroideries or a simple front zipper, you can look sophisticated and feel comfortable. Top swimwear colours for Spring Summer 2020 Orange is the new black? Not, but it’s almost like the series. Orange, along with other citric colours, such as mandarin, amber and lemon, are the top colours for the Spring Summer 2020 season. For those who don’t get too excited about bright colours, check these alternatives: Black, especially for bikinis. The tinier, the better, this season. The Little Black Bikini is a thing this season. Chocolate brown. It may not be the most obvious colour for swimwear, but chocolate looks fav paired with yellow, lime, beige and ivory, so it’s ideal to find the perfect matching beachwear. Plus, our beloved leopard prints in chocolate are just perfect! (Yes, you guessed it. Animal prints are also hot for swimwear!) Classic Blue. Pantone’s colour of the year is an elegant but simple dark blue shade. Darker than Cobalt Blue, close to a navy. Ideal for those who love the sailor style. Pair it with white and bright red, of course. Swimwear from Day to Night A swimsuit is more than a garment for swimming and sunbathing in 2020. This is the season to wear your swimwear as a bodysuit, with your favourite shorts, jeans or skirt. Our Gottex Couture range has the most perfect luxury one-piece styles, ideal to rock this fashion trend. And remember, you can always wear your kaftan and your sun dress outside of the beach, for the ultimate boho look. We hope our swimwear trend insights help you choose the right swimwear and beachwear for you. So, tell us. What are your favourite Spring Summer 2020 swimwear trends?

So, you’ve booked your holiday and you’ve purchased a few new swimsuits and bikinis from UK Swimwear and you’re looking forward to that lovely break you’ve been planning for a while. Then, you wonder: Is your skin beach-ready? The last thing you want is to face the beach with unprepared skin. Here’s how we think you can take care of your skin and make it look and feel smooth and glowing. Bringing it back from the winter months and making it look its best can be easier than you think, with these few simple steps. Get ready to show your skin in the sun. It’s time to bear all! Exfoliation It’s important to exfoliate no matter what the season. This removes dead skin cells and gives a much more youthful glow to the skin. However, it’s important that you don’t damage the skin whilst doing this. You need to be gentle and use well-established products that won’t strip your skin of its important essential oils. If you’re exfoliating your body, then try things like sugar or salt. This is an inexpensive and easy way of using an abrasive that washes off easily. It’s not always necessary to spend a fortune on products. Also, try using cloths and exfoliating mittens. They’re easy to use and you’re far more likely to do this task if it’s not deemed to be a chore. Gently rub your skin in circular motions and make sure you pay attention to problem areas such as your heels, knees, elbows, etc. Hair Removal Most of us implement some kind of hair removal process in our day to day life but when you’re showing off more skin than normal it’s important to make sure every last bit of fuzz is gone. There are of course several ways of doing this. You can use razors, shavers, creams, waxes etc. These are down to personal choice but what we would say is, be kind to your skin. There is an old saying in the world of skin care “At 20 you have the skin that nature gave you and at 40 you have the skin that you deserve”. Harsh but true. If you are going for some of the more chemical-based hair removal procedures, then remember to be kind to your skin after the procedure is done. For instance, if you have all those important places waxed then be sure not to go into the sun the next day. Give those areas time to heal and calm down. It’s all about planning. If you’re having a wax treatment, then try to get it done 48 hours before you go. Check in advance with your esthetician, as some hair-removal treatments, such as the laser, aren’t recommended if you’re planning on sunbathing. When you’ve done your hair removal, no matter what system you have chosen, then make sure you have some gentle, calming lotions to hand to use afterwards. Calming lotions that contain products such as Aloe Vera are usually the best. I’d also recommend that you take a tube of pure Aloe Vera on holiday with you. It’s the best thing ever for sunburn. Eating Well If you know you’re going to expose your skin to the harsh rays of the sun, then you can prepare for this in different ways. Not just by what you put on your skin, but by what you put in your tummy. It’s a well-documented fact that eating cooked tomatoes will help guard against harmful rays of the sun. They will help to prevent sunburn and blistering. Cooked tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and thus helps the skin to prepare against the ravaging rays. You can also consume tomato sauce or juice, even the odd Bloody Mary, is deemed to work wonders. Eat or drink this amazing produce every day before and during your holiday and this will give you the maximum benefit. Having said all this, we do of course recommend that you still use a high factor sunscreen. Don’t just rely on the tomatoes alone! Spots and Blemishes If you’re prone to spots and blemishes, try to exfoliate them away and make sure your skin is not showing signs of infection in any way, shape or form. It’s easy to spend all our time trying to look after the skin on our face and yet forgetting all about our bodies. Make sure that you use medicated creams to help where there are infected areas. This will help to heal those areas and make them less prone to damaged skin and more outbreaks whilst on holiday. Smoothing and Toning You can buy all kinds of smoothing and toning lotions and creams. They won’t keep your skin smooth forever and they won’t keep you permanently toned, but they will give your skin a smoother look. Try some of the ones that you find in your local supermarkets. They’re not expensive and if they don’t work as well as you’d hoped then you’ve not spent a fortune on them. The least they will do is make your skin feel better moisturized and give a healthy glow. Pedicure and Manicure Again, our feet are often missed when it comes to looking after ourselves. If you think about the fact that most of us aim to do 10,000 steps a day to remain healthy, then think of our poor feet, the pressure in those steps the work they put in supporting us day after day. A nice foot soak in either a foot spa or a simple washing up bowl is the perfect way to end the day. Make sure you use a Scholl Pedi so there is not a trace of hard skin. Then add a lovely foot balm. A mint scented one is usually cooling and relaxing. Remember, during the summer months, we usually wear open-toed sandals or flip-flops. Your feet will be on display for all the world to see so make them look as beautiful as the rest of you. Time to check out your hands. Remember, these are the first thing people see when you are introduced. If your nails are in bad shape, then invest in some nice new colours for your nails and a good quality hand cream for the rest. Take your time with a good quality emery board and smooth the edges of your nails so as to not have sharp, jagged edges. If you can afford it, go to a saloon and get both your hand and feet done as a treat before you go on holiday. A professional manicure and pedicure should last you at least two weeks and you’ll feel much better for it. Finally, you’re now ready to go and enjoy your holiday. So Bon Voyage….
The pareo is not a new concept, but it is at its most popular in a very long time. The possibilities of the pareo are nearly endless, and this simple and incredibly versatile design is what makes the pareo so great. It should put this well-proportioned piece of fabric at the top of your list of swimwear accessories. The concept is simple. A rectangular garment that you can tie a number of different ways. That is all the word pareo describes. This sounds simple, and it is. But it makes it the single most useful and versatile item you can buy for your holiday. The Possibilities Of The Pareo? So what is it about this simple item that makes it so vital to a beach outfit? It is all about the ways that you can configure it. The possibilities of the pareo is really endless. You can tie it into a scarf or wrap around your head for a shield from the sun. It can be used as a UV protector for your shoulders too. You can wrap a pareo and then use it as a sling for carrying a phone or other small essentials you might want to have with you on the beach. Because of the ultralight material used in most pareo designs, it can be twisted and wrapped. This means it can be used to make a smaller garment, or unfurled to become much larger. If you thought the shapes were versatile, then think about the it can easily become a simple skirt wrap, a light stole, a long scarf, a head or shoulder wrap. The possibilities of the pareo are as close to infinite as can be. It can be practical, in a way that no other garment can. And it can be beautiful, like all beachwear should be. See our pareos right here.
We aren’t going to talk about the awful campaign encouraging women to take weight loss pills to be Beach Body Ready. At UK Swimwear we fight against body-shaming. So, let’s make this clear: You, my friend, already have a body and you shouldn’t hide it. This is the reason why YOU should wear a bikini this Summer. Excuse No. 2: “After becoming a Mum, I can’t wear bikinis” Many women don’t feel confident enough to wear a bikini after becoming a mum: their stomach isn’t as flat as before and they have stretch marks in their tummy. If you feel this way, you have to read what blogger Vicki Psarias wrote. These are some of her amazing words: “Reality is beautiful, people. I do feel good in my own skin, and want other women too. So what if my tummy has lost some definition and I have stretch marks, I’m proud of my physique – it’s made and carried two baby boys and day to day I never think about those marks and when I do it’s positively” (Read more here) (…) “No woman (or man) is perfect, we’re all diverse in our looks and bodies, and as you know, the models you see in magazines usually undergo 10 hours or more of photoshopping and editing. Perfection doesn’t exist people. Imperfection is perfection” (Read more here) The Positive Vibes of the #ProudInMyBikini Movement! Vicki Psarias (@HonestMummy) also included a picture of herself in a bikini and, guess what, it reached thousands of people. Besides, her action has inspired many bloggers to sharing their pictures in bikini, under the hashtag #ProudInMyBikini We want to add our bit to encourage you to wear a bikini this Summer. So, we’d like to invite you to check out Vicki’s inspiring blog post and join the #ProudInMyBikini campaign.
