FOOTBALL fans could not believe their eyes after Brighton star Diego Gomez smashed home a goal from the HALFWAY LINE.
It was a nightmare start for Crystal Palace against their rivals after young defender Jaydee Canvot turned home an own goal after just four minutes.
But things took a turn for the spectacular just three minutes later when Paraguayan midfielder Gomez launched an audacious effort from the halfway line.
Surrounded by Palace shirts, he elected to leather an effort at goal, floating above backup Eagles keeper Walter Benitez and dipping under the bar to double his side’s advantage.
Fans went absolutely wild in the Amex stands and online alike as they struggled to wrap their heads around the goal.
One account wrote: “Diego Gomez… take a bow! What have we just witnessed?”
Another fan wrote: “DIEGO GOMEZ ARE YOU OK?!?!”
A third added: “DIEGO GOMEZ, THAT IS ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!”
And a fourth said: “This Brighton team is not playing fair at all omg.”
Palace barely had a moment to recover from the unbelievable strike before they were again picking the ball out of their own net.

This time it was Swede Yasin Ayari, whose deflected strike made it 3-0 inside the opening 10 minutes of the match.
It was a continuation of Brighton’s blistering start to the season under Fabian Hurzeler that has seen them provisionally leap up to second in the table.
