PARENTS have until the end of today (October 31) to finish their child’s state secondary school application for September 2027.
Children and parents could miss out on their preferred school if applications are submitted after the deadline.

In order for your child to start secondary school in year 7 next September, you will need to apply, even if you live in the catchment area of your preferred school.
This year, the deadline for on-time applications falls on Saturday, October 31 – with all the documents needed to be submitted before 11.59pm.
Parents have been warned that submissions that take place any later than this could result in their child missing out on a place at their chosen school.
The only exception to this is if your child is in year 6 and attends an ‘all through school’.
Applications for secondary school can be made online, via your local council’s website.
On the form, parents will be asked to list up to six schools they are planning to apply for in order of preference.
However, listing just one school will not increase their chance of getting a place there.
Applicants will also need two proofs of their address, which includes a council tax reference number and a tenancy agreement, a home utility bill from the last three months or a TV licence.
This proof will determine whether your child is a priority for their chosen school.
The government has assured however, that every child will be given a place in a school, even if their preferred schools cannot be offered.
Local authorities will send school place offers on March 1, 2027 through the post and parents will have until the deadline given to accept their child’s place.
Those who are applying to fee-paying schools should get in touch with the school directly to find out how to apply.
