A MEXICAN boxer has died aged 26 less than a week after being put in a coma following a fight.
Arturo “Lobito” Torres fought against Gilberto Garcia on September 19 in Mexicali.

Garcia earned a technical knockout victory in the seventh round.
But after the fight was stopped by the referee, Lobito remained in the ring and then collapsed.
He was swiftly taken to hospital for treatment and underwent an emergency surgery for a blood clot in his brain and was placed in the coma.
However, it was confirmed he had sadly passed away on Friday.
And tributes poured in on social media for the tragic star.
Supreme Boxing wrote last night: “Tonight we here at Supreme Boxing along with all of the boxing community is in mourning following the death @arturotorres.box.
“Rest in Peace.”
Another posted: “This is so heartbreaking.”
A third added: “Incredibly sad. May God be with Arturo and his family during this heartbreaking time.”
A fourth typed: “My condolences to his family. Truly sorry to see this.”
And a final user replied: “Rest in peace champ.”
Torres made his pro boxing debut in November 2018 and finished with a record of 15-6-3.
His brother Angel had given a positive medical update following the initial surgery and there was hope Arturo would recover.
Speaking last Sunday, Angel Torres said: “It went well, the surgery was a complete success, he’ll be asleep for a couple of days, not because he can’t wake up but to prevent him from straining himself to do something and hurting himself in the process.
“He was convulsing on top of the ring, he was unconscious the whole way during transport, then they put him in an induced coma, but right now he’s already stable.”
Unfortunately, though, Lobito deteriorated and succumbed to his injuries.
