In a historic move that signals India’s growing ambition in the artificial intelligence (AI) space, the Government of India has chosen Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI to develop the country’s first sovereign large language model (LLM). Part of the strategic India AI Mission, this initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on foreign AI systems while fostering innovation tailored to India’s unique linguistic and cultural landscape.
