Vance, who later adopted the mantle of Major Victory, was a 20th-century astronaut who spent a millennium in suspended animation. Upon waking, he discovered that humanity had already achieved faster-than-light travel, rendering his original mission obsolete. After the reptilian Badoon ravaged the planet, these four survivors united to protect the galaxy.
Vance Astro vs. Star-Lord
The contrast between Vance Astro and Peter Quill is stark. While Quill is defined by his adventuring, scoundrel-like persona, Vance Astro fits the mold of a traditional superhero. This distinction became even more pronounced as the character evolved. In the 1990s, Vance was freed from the containment suit that had preserved him for centuries. Having recovered Captain America’s long-lost shield, he adopted a costume reminiscent of the Star-Spangled Avenger and began operating as Major Victory.
