Smart city proposals in Hua Hin include free WiFi, pet registration and smart water dispensers

Plans for a Hua Hin Smart City development are moving forward, with proposals including free public WiFi, a pet registration platform, and smart drinking water dispensers currently under consideration by local authorities.

The proposals were presented during a Smart City project meeting held on 28 April at the Hua Hin City Municipality Office. Deputy Mayor Atichart Chaisri chaired the session, following an assignment from the mayor, with senior officials including Municipal Clerk Jeerawat Phrommanee and department heads in attendance.

The meeting reviewed ongoing progress related to Smart City development, with updates provided by the Technology and Communications Division under the Strategy and Budget Department.

Officials reported that a real-time traffic monitoring service has recently been launched, allowing residents to check traffic conditions across the city. Updates were also shared on complaints submitted via the “Chuay Kan Du” mobile application, along with feedback following the installation of Smart Pole units in selected areas.

Smart city proposals target daily convenience and sustainability

Among the new proposals presented was the “My City Free WiFi” initiative, which would provide public internet access across key areas of Hua Hin. If implemented, the system is expected to improve connectivity for both residents and visitors, particularly in busy public spaces.

Another proposal, under the “Love Dogs, Love Cats” project, would introduce a digital platform to register and manage pet data. The system is intended to help locate lost animals and provide updates on public services such as rabies vaccination campaigns. Officials said the platform could also support broader animal welfare efforts by improving data tracking and communication with pet owners.

A separate “City Data” project was also put forward, aiming to integrate multiple municipal services into a single platform accessible via the Line messaging application. The goal is to streamline access to services and improve communication between the municipality and residents.

In addition, the Waterworks Department presented a proposal to install smart drinking water dispensers across the city. The initiative is designed to reduce reliance on bottled water and cut down on plastic waste, in line with environmental goals.

All of the proposed Smart City projects remain under review, with authorities assessing their feasibility, costs and potential impact before any formal decisions are made.
