Tennis and pickleball facility opens in Hua Hin

A new tennis and pickleball facility in Hua Hin has opened its doors to players, adding to the town’s growing range of sports and recreation options.

Sports Life Hua Hin, located in Thap Thai just off Soi 112, is now operating daily from 6am to 10pm.

The venue features four ITF Class 4 tennis courts and two pickleball courts, all fully undercover, allowing play throughout the day regardless of weather conditions. Operators say there are also plans to expand the number of pickleball courts in the future in response to rising demand. Male and female changing facilities are available on site, while a café is also due to open soon.

Sports Life Hua Hin is situated a short drive from the town centre. Drivers heading along Soi 112 can turn right at the traffic lights at the top of the road, with the facility located a few hundred metres further along on the right-hand side.

Pickleball, widely described as the world’s fastest-growing sport, has seen a noticeable increase in popularity in Hua Hin in recent years. The sport was first developed in the United States in 1965 as a family-friendly activity combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Played with solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball, it is known for being easy to learn, social in nature and suitable for players of different ages and fitness levels.

The addition of a new dedicated tennis and pickleball facility in Hua Hin is another reflection of the interest in active lifestyles and community-based sport, particularly among expatriates and visiting tourists.

With its undercover courts and extended opening hours, Sports Life Hua Hin is expected to attract both casual players and those seeking more structured training or competitive play.

Pakistan defeat South Korea 3-1 in second hockey Test

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan continued their impressive run in the four-match hockey Test series by defeating South Korea 3-1 in the second encounter, securing a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. The home side delivered another disciplined performance, building on the momentum from their opening victory to outclass the visitors with clinical finishing and solid defensive play. Pakistan’s star performer was Abubakar, who struck twice to put his team in control, while Abdul Rehman added the third goal to seal another convincing victory. South Korea managed to score once, but failed to recover as Pakistan maintained control throughout the contest. The victory follows Pakistan’s 3-1 triumph in the opening Test, giving the Green Shirts consecutive wins and putting them in a strong position ahead of the remaining two matches of the series. The ongoing series also marks a significant moment for Pakistan hockey, with international hockey returning to the country after nearly two decades. South Korea’s visit has been welcomed by fans and officials alike, who see it as a positive step toward reviving international hockey in Pakistan. Pakistan displayed greater composure in midfield, created more scoring opportunities and converted their chances effectively. The team’s attacking intent, coupled with an organized defensive structure, limited South Korea’s ability to mount a comeback despite their lone goal. The performances of Abubakar and Abdul Rehman have been particularly encouraging, highlighting the emergence of young talent capable of strengthening Pakistan’s hockey squad in future international competitions. With a 2-0 advantage, Pakistan will now look to complete the series in dominant fashion when the two teams meet in the remaining fixtures. Team management is expected to maintain the winning combination while continuing to build confidence and consistency ahead of upcoming international tournaments. The back-to-back victories have generated renewed optimism among hockey supporters, who hope the successful hosting of the Test series and Pakistan’s strong performances will contribute to the revival of the country’s proud hockey tradition and encourage more international teams to tour Pakistan in the future.

Returning Ben Stokes hits gutsy century on comebac…

Ben Stokes grabbed the headlines once again with a typically gutsy century on his return to competitive action for the first time since retiring from Test cricket three weeks ago. The all-rounder defied severe cramp to help Durham beat Derbyshire in the One-Day Cup, playing his first List A game for his county for nearly 12 years. Stokes displayed all of his hallmark grit as he battled repeated bouts of cramp, collapsing in pain as he reached his fifty, to drag his side to their target of 257. Earlier, he had bowled nine overs but failed to take a wicket as Derbyshire’s Martin Andersson’s well-measured century formed the backbone of the Falcons’ 256-9. Despite a clash with the opening day of this year’s Hundred competition, the prospect of seeing Stokes in action for the first time since his international retirement meant hundreds more eyeballs were on the action at the County Ground. Batting at four, Stokes found himself at the crease with Durham in trouble after Ben Aitchison’s early burst had removed both openers with just 24 runs on the board. After a measured start, the 35-year-old moved through the gears before showing the first signs of cramp as he neared his half-century, which came up with his fifth four in 71 balls. In the midst of repeated bouts of treatment from the physio, Stokes added 74 with Will Rhodes, 66 with Colin Ackermann, 52 with Ollie Robinson, and 41 with captain Kasey Aldridge to break the back of the chase with an innings that showed the character synonymous with many of his knocks for England. His hundred, the 10th of his List A career, was a stunning domestic return and sealed a five-wicket win for Durham. The innings was a reminder of Stokes’ enduring quality and his ability to perform under pressure, even as he battles physical challenges. His return to domestic cricket has been eagerly anticipated, and his performance against Derbyshire suggests that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the game. Stokes’ retirement from international cricket at the end of last month marked the end of an era for England, but his continued presence in domestic cricket ensures that fans will still have the opportunity to witness his brilliance. His century for Durham is a testament to his resilience and his love for the game, and it will be a source of inspiration for his teammates and fans alike. As the domestic season continues, Stokes’ form will be closely watched, with many hoping to see more of his trademark performances. His return to action has already provided one of the highlights of the season, and there is every expectation that he will continue to deliver memorable moments for Durham and cricket fans across the country.

Shubman Gill returns to No.1 in ICC ODI batting rankings

India captain Shubman Gill has reclaimed the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings after an outstanding run of form in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. The right-handed opener produced another impressive performance with the bat, scoring a total of 188 runs across the series. His consistency at the top of the order helped him climb back to the summit of the rankings, marking the third time in his international career that he has occupied the top spot among ODI batters. Gill’s return to the top was also influenced by New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell, who missed the final two matches of his team’s ODI series against the West Indies because of injury. Mitchell’s absence prevented him from adding to his ranking points, allowing Gill to move ahead in the latest ICC update. The latest rankings also featured significant movements in both the batting and bowling charts across ODI and T20I cricket. Namibia spinner Bernard Scholtz emerged as one of the biggest gainers in the ODI bowling rankings. The experienced left-arm spinner climbed five places to seventh after delivering a series of impressive performances during Namibia’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series campaign in Utrecht against Nepal and the Netherlands. His consistent wicket-taking ability played a crucial role in Namibia’s successful campaign and earned him a place among the world’s leading ODI bowlers. Meanwhile, India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable rise on the international stage. The youngster was named Player of the Series after a brilliant display in India’s T20I series against Zimbabwe. He scored 151 runs in just three innings while maintaining a stunning strike rate of 196.10, underlining his aggressive approach at the crease. Having played only six T20 internationals so far, Sooryavanshi made one of the biggest jumps in the latest rankings, soaring 230 places to reach 48th in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings. His rapid progress highlights his growing reputation as one of India’s most exciting young talents. India also enjoyed success elsewhere in the T20I batting rankings. Tilak Varma moved up two places to sixth after continuing his consistent performances in the shortest format, while Shreyas Iyer climbed seven positions to reach 24th following a productive series. The bowling rankings also witnessed notable changes. Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani gained 10 places to move into 26th position after delivering impactful performances with the new ball. India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi also registered one of the biggest improvements of the week, jumping 31 places to claim the 41st spot in the T20I bowling rankings. The latest ICC rankings reflect recent performances across international cricket, with several players making significant progress through consistent displays. While Gill’s return to the top of the ODI batting rankings remains the biggest headline, the rise of emerging talents such as Sooryavanshi and the continued progress of bowlers like Scholtz, Muzarabani and Bishnoi highlight the growing competition across all formats of the game.
