CTD Punjab arrests 54 terrorists in 419 intelligence-based operations

Lahore – The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has achieved a major breakthrough against terrorism, extremism and anti-state activities by conducting large-scale intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across the province.

According to a CTD spokesperson, a total of 419 intelligence-based operations were conducted in various districts of Punjab. During these operations, 422 suspected individuals were questioned while 54 terrorists associated with various banned terrorist organizations were arrested.

According to the CTD, the arrested suspects also include individuals linked to the Indian intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing). They include Waris Khan arrested in Lahore, Roz Ali Khan arrested in Okara, Danish Ali arrested in Lahore, Wilayat Shah arrested in Okara and Muhammad Aziz arrested in Okara.

The CTD said these arrests are an important part of ongoing operations against enemy networks and further investigations against the suspects are underway in accordance with the law.

The arrested individuals also include members associated with Daesh, Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Sipah-e-Sahaba, Fitna al-Khawarij and other banned organizations. They were arrested from various districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Pakpattan and Bahawalpur.

During the operations, law enforcement agencies recovered 7 kilograms and 900 grams of explosive material, 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 50 detonators, 98 feet of safety fuse wire, 2 pistols, 3 rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, 120 pamphlets, 72 banned books, 31 prohibited magazines, 112 stickers, 2 flags, one receipt book, 8 mobile phones and Rs339,880 in cash.

According to the spokesperson, over the past eight weeks, a total of 13,572 combing operations were conducted in collaboration with local police and other law enforcement agencies.

During these operations, 494,642 individuals were checked, 1,103 arrests were made, 1,070 cases were registered and 977 recoveries of various kinds were made.

The CTD Punjab has reiterated its commitment to further intensifying operations against terrorists, their facilitators and anti-state elements stressing that no compromise will be made on peace and security in Punjab.

The department has appealed to citizens to immediately report any information regarding terrorism or suspicious activities to the CTD helpline at 0800-11111 to ensure timely action.

Authorities have also launched joint operations involving the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and Balochistan Police following recent attacks on security personnel and civilians. Pakistan has witnessed a significant rise in militant violence in recent years, with Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remaining among the most affected regions. The actresses affected by the ban are Mahi Rajput, Hina Sheikh, Malaika Shehzadi, Madiha Khan, Mehak Noor, Mano Multani, Raima Mehr and Hasna Jutt. They will not be permitted to perform in theatres during the one-month suspension period. PUCAR Director Mughis Bin Aziz said that monitoring of stage dramas was continuing across Punjab. He added that action was being taken against performers and productions found violating the applicable rules and regulations. According to the government notification, complaints regarding inappropriate acts and gestures during stage performances were investigated and found to be valid. The authorities subsequently decided to impose temporary performance restrictions on the eight actresses. The action comes amid increased government monitoring of stage dramas in Punjab. Authorities have been focusing on the quality of theatre productions, compliance with performance regulations and the prevention of content considered inappropriate under existing rules.     PTA cuts eSIM fee to Rs1,500, allows 10 free transfers

    ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reduced the charges for eSIM services. The PTA has set the initial eSIM fee at Rs. 1,500 and allowed users to transfer an eSIM from one phone to another up to 10 times free of charge. The new policy will come into effect on August 17, 2026. The decision was taken following directions from a parliamentary committee which had asked the PTA to make eSIM services more user-friendly. The committee also sought to reduce the need for subscribers to visit customer service centres for eSIM-related services. According to the PTA, the existing system already allows users to transfer an eSIM between phones multiple times by using the same QR code provided during the original purchase and activation. As a result, no additional charges are applied for these transfers. However, following consultations with cellular operators, the regulator has now formally revised the charging structure. The maximum initial eSIM fee has been reduced to Rs. 1,500 while subscribers will be allowed up to 10 free eSIM transfers between compatible devices. In addition, the PTA is working with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and cellular operators to improve SIM security. The regulator plans to introduce a new multi-factor subscriber verification system to strengthen the verification process for SIM issuance and ownership.

    Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has said that people may take to the streets before September 27 as political developments continue to unfold. Speaking to the media along with Imran Khan’s sisters at the Factory Check Post near Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Aleema said the situation was changing rapidly. She said she believed people could come out before the September 27 date. She also claimed that she had heard the date of a planned protest had been changed to August 14. Aleema also raised concerns about reports regarding Imran Khan’s health. She said various reports were circulating about his condition but the family had not been provided with sufficient information. She questioned reports suggesting that Imran Khan had a blood pressure problem. Aleema said no one in their family had such an issue and questioned how a double dose of medication could have been administered to someone who did not suffer from the condition. She said the family had never discussed politics after meeting Imran Khan. Aleema added that they agreed with remarks by Sohail Afridi that family members should be allowed to meet him without turning the meetings into political discussions. According to Aleema, Imran Khan is their brother and his message is important to the family. She said mentioning the name of a government official should not automatically be considered political activity. Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi also said that political matters should not be attached to the family’s meetings with him. She said the family would avoid naming officials during such meetings. Aleema said a three-member bench of the high court had already issued a decision regarding meetings with Imran Khan. She questioned why the family should submit a request to the jail superintendent when a court order was already in place. She also described PTI as a democratic political party. She said disagreements and differences within a political party were normal and should not necessarily be viewed as a major crisis. Family raises concerns over Imran Khan’s health Noreen Niazi said the September 27 date remained in place, while a separate call had been given for a gathering at D-Chowk on August 14. Aleema said she had no information about the alleged audio recording involving PTI leader Salman Akram Raja and Mashal Yousafzai. She said the decision to give a protest call was the responsibility of the party and that the party had issued the call. Aleema said the family had only one major demand regarding Imran Khan’s health. She called for him to be shifted to a hospital and treated by his personal doctor. Another sister, Uzma Khan, said the family was unable to confirm or deny reports about Imran Khan’s health because they did not have sufficient information about his condition.

    Lahore: Opposition member of the Punjab Assembly Aftab Ahmad Khan has criticised the provincial government’s Green Property Certificate system, claiming that poor implementation has disrupted property transactions and created difficulties for citizens across Punjab. The opposition lawmaker has submitted an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly, highlighting what he described as serious administrative and technical shortcomings in the newly introduced system. According to the motion, the system was implemented across Punjab simultaneously without adequate preparation, complete computerised land records or sufficient training for the staff responsible for processing property transactions. Aftab Ahmad Khan said the system had become particularly difficult for ordinary citizens and overseas Pakistanis seeking to buy or sell property in the province. He claimed that property transactions in several areas had effectively slowed down or come to a halt because of problems associated with the new procedure. According to the motion, people who need to sell properties urgently are facing financial difficulties because transactions cannot be completed promptly. The opposition member also pointed to discrepancies in computerised land records and inadequate staff training. He alleged that errors in records and excessive discretionary powers available to officials could create opportunities for corruption and contribute to disputes over land ownership. Another concern raised in the motion is the certificate’s validity period. The opposition member said the 90-day validity period adds to the difficulties faced by property owners and buyers, particularly when transactions are delayed because of administrative problems. The motion further criticised what was described as a complicated “seven-window operation”. Instead of simplifying property transactions through a one-window mechanism, the current process has allegedly increased the number of offices and stages applicants must navigate. Aftab Ahmad Khan said the situation was particularly problematic for properties owned by multiple people, as co-owners may face additional difficulties in completing transactions within the required time. The opposition has called for immediate correction and updating of land records and better preparation of officials handling the system. It has also demanded the establishment of a user-friendly online portal specifically for overseas Pakistanis so they can complete property-related procedures without repeatedly visiting government offices. An effective grievance redressal mechanism has also been proposed to enable citizens to report problems and obtain timely solutions. The motion states that widespread concern and frustration are emerging among citizens over the implementation of the system.

    At least 26 people, including women and children, have lost their lives after five days of heavy rainfall across the plains and mountainous districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The severe weather has also left several people injured and caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure in multiple parts of the province. The PDMA’s latest report stated that the fatalities include two women and four children, highlighting the devastating human impact of the ongoing spell of heavy rain. In addition to the deaths, six people sustained injuries in weather-related incidents reported across affected districts. The continuous rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides, and structural collapses, causing widespread destruction in both urban and rural areas. According to the disaster management authority, 65 houses have been damaged, with 41 homes suffering partial damage and 24 houses completely destroyed. The damage has displaced several families, many of whom are now relying on emergency assistance. The worst-affected districts include Abbottabad, Swat, Buner, Khyber, Lower Chitral, Lower Dir, Mansehra, Mardan, Peshawar, Shangla, Swabi, Upper Dir, and Upper Kohistan. Rescue teams and local authorities continue to monitor vulnerable areas where additional rainfall may increase the risk of flooding and landslides. The PDMA confirmed that it is working closely with Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant government agencies to coordinate emergency response efforts. Rescue operations, relief distribution, and damage assessments are currently underway to ensure that affected families receive immediate assistance. Authorities have instructed district administrations to accelerate relief activities and provide essential support, including temporary shelter, food, medical care, and other emergency services to displaced residents. Officials are also assessing infrastructure damage and identifying areas requiring urgent rehabilitation. The recent spell of heavy rainfall serves as another reminder of the increasing challenges posed by extreme weather events in Pakistan. Experts have repeatedly emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and resilient infrastructure to reduce the impact of floods and severe storms on vulnerable communities. Residents living in flood-prone and mountainous areas have been advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. As rescue and recovery operations continue, government agencies remain focused on protecting lives, supporting affected families, and restoring normal conditions in the worst-hit districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
