Atif Aslam returns to albums with “Subah Aye Na” after 18 years

Pakistani music star Atif Aslam has returned to the album format after an 18-year gap with his new project *Subah Aye Na*, arriving at a time when music consumption is increasingly shaped by algorithms, social media and short-form content.

At the promotional launch of *Subah Aye Na* at Karamax Studio in Karachi’s Korangi, Aslam reflected on his musical journey, artistic freedom and the changing way audiences discover and experience music. The singer, who rose to fame as the former lead vocalist of Jal – The Band through the hit song *Aadat*, also spoke about his connection with his fans, known as Aadeez, and why he believes genuine art should not be created according to formulas.

At the event, Aslam performed several of his most popular songs, including *Meri Zindagi Hai Tu*, *Woh Lamhe*, *Jalpari*, *Doorie*, *Hona Tha Pyar* and *Hum Kis Gali Ja Rahe Hain*. He also introduced audiences to newer tracks such as *Let’s Have Some Fun* and *Hoon Tere Liye*, before ending the performance with the album’s title track, *Subah Aye Na*.

Fahad Mustafa, Asim Azhar and Talha Anjum also joined him on stage. At Anjum’s request, Aslam performed verses from *Tere Liye*, featured in the 2010 Indian film *Prince*, alongside *O Mere Khuda*. The crowd later encouraged him to sing *Aadat*, prompting the singer to perform a few lines of the song before concluding the evening.

Speaking about his decision to release an album after nearly two decades, Aslam said he wanted to break away from the expectations that artists often place upon themselves. According to him, constantly observing what others are doing can lead artists to develop unwritten rules about the type of music they should make and the kind of work audiences will approve of.

He explained that his decision was not a deliberate act of rebellion but came from the same instinct that motivated him when he first entered music: the desire to challenge conventional sounds and experiment with different forms of expression.

For Aslam, creating *Subah Aye Na* was therefore more important than predicting how audiences would consume it. Whether listeners hear the complete album, select individual songs or connect with only a few tracks is secondary to the creative process itself.

The singer compared this approach with the work of legendary artists such as Pablo Picasso, pointing out that not every work by a celebrated artist becomes equally popular. A lack of mainstream recognition, he argued, does not necessarily reduce the artistic value of a creation.

Aslam also rejected the idea that successful or timeless music can be produced through a fixed formula. He believes audiences ultimately decide what resonates with them, making success both personal and unpredictable.

While acknowledging the growing influence of social media and algorithms, he said these platforms are not solely responsible for changing musical tastes. Short-form content has made listeners accustomed to consuming brief sections of songs, but meaningful and layered music still has an audience.

He pointed to Pakistani acts such as Bayaan and the continuing appreciation for poets including Mirza Ghalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz as evidence that audiences still value depth, poetry and substance.

Aslam said he does not want to “conquer the world” through his music. Instead, he hopes his work can genuinely touch a smaller number of people. For him, even influencing a few listeners in a meaningful way represents success.

He concluded that artists should not create music by constantly calculating who might like it. Once approval becomes the primary goal, he believes art can lose its honesty. For Aslam, *Subah Aye Na* is ultimately an expression of artistic freedom rather than an attempt to satisfy an algorithm or predict what the audience wants.

Mahira Khan raises 180,000 pounds for Palestine

Mahira Khan has never been a passive bystander when it comes to causes she believes in, and her latest trip to the United Kingdom has made that commitment tangible in a way that goes well beyond a social media post. The actress and UNHCR ambassador raised an extraordinary 180,000 pounds for Palestine through a series of fan meet and greet events held across the UK, with all proceeds donated directly to Palestinian relief efforts. Mahira has been among the most vocal Pakistani celebrities in speaking out about the situation in Gaza since the conflict intensified. Her advocacy has been consistent and public, spanning social media posts, interviews and now direct fundraising action that has translated her words into significant material support. The UK events were hosted by Haroon Rashid, who organised the meet and greets and shared a statement following their conclusion expressing the collective feeling of everyone involved. Mahira herself appeared in two beautiful looks across the events, meeting fans, taking photographs and spending time with the people who came out to support both her and the cause she was representing. The response from those who attended and from the wider public online has been overwhelmingly warm. Fans flooded social media with admiration and gratitude. “Love for Mahira,” wrote one follower. “Great work,” said another. A third simply noted how beautiful she looked throughout the events, a reminder that even in the midst of serious humanitarian advocacy, her public presence carries the kind of warmth and grace that has made her one of Pakistan’s most beloved figures for over a decade. The figure of 180,000 pounds is a remarkable achievement for a celebrity-led charitable initiative, and it reflects both the depth of feeling around the Palestine issue among the Pakistani diaspora in the UK and the genuine affection and respect that Mahira Khan commands from her fanbase across the world. Mahira Khan has been a UNHCR National Goodwill Ambassador since 2019, using her platform to advocate for refugees and vulnerable communities. Her Palestine fundraising adds another significant chapter to that record of humanitarian engagement, demonstrating that the commitments she expresses publicly are ones she is willing to back with real effort. For Pakistani audiences watching from home, the news of the fundraising total has prompted considerable pride. It is a reminder that the influence that comes with celebrity, when directed thoughtfully and consistently toward meaningful causes, can generate outcomes that go well beyond anything a single voice in an interview can achieve. Mahira Khan raised 180,000 pounds for Palestine not by speaking about the issue but by showing up in person, meeting her fans one by one, and turning that connection into something that will reach people who need it most.

Police trace Aamir Khan threat to foreign VPN

The investigation into the threatening message sent to Bollywood star Aamir Khan has taken a new turn after police reportedly traced the message to a Sweden-based virtual private network (VPN), while authorities continue efforts to identify the individual behind it. According to police sources, the threatening audio message, which was allegedly circulated in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was sent using technology designed to conceal the sender’s real location. Investigators believe the person responsible used both a VPN and the Tor browser, making it more difficult to determine their identity. Officials reportedly traced the initial IP address to Sweden, but suspect the location may have been masked through online privacy tools. Authorities are now working with digital evidence to establish the sender’s actual whereabouts and identity. The audio clip was allegedly sent after Aamir Khan’s recent marriage to Gauri Spratt. In the recording, the speaker, claiming to be Arzu Bishnoi, accused the actor of promoting what was described as “love jihad” and allegedly threatened to “teach Aamir Khan a lesson.” According to the report, the threat was accompanied by a social media post claiming to represent the Lawrence Bishnoi group. An excerpt from the alleged post read: “I, Aarzoo Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi (Lawrence Bishnoi Group), want to say that people like Aamir Khan are promoting what is being called ‘Love Jihad’ in our country, which is against our culture. We will not tolerate this man, and he will soon be made to face the consequences.” The message further claimed: “We promise our brothers, sisters, and fellow citizens that whoever promotes such disgraceful acts will be dealt with in our own way.” Police are treating the matter seriously because the threat referenced the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose name has previously surfaced in several high-profile cases involving public figures. However, investigators have not confirmed whether the threat has any genuine connection to Bishnoi’s criminal network. Authorities are now examining digital records, internet routing information and communication platforms used to send the audio clip. Investigators have also reportedly contacted relevant online platforms and international authorities as part of efforts to obtain additional technical information. The threatening message surfaced shortly after Aamir Khan married his longtime partner Gauri Spratt in a private registered ceremony held at his Mumbai residence on July 5. The marriage marked the actor’s third. He was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares children Junaid and Ira, before later marrying filmmaker Kiran Rao. Although Aamir and Kiran divorced in 2021, they have continued to collaborate professionally, including on the acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies. For now, police have not announced any arrests. Investigators continue analysing the digital trail behind the threatening message while attempting to determine whether the sender acted alone or as part of a larger operation. Officials say the use of VPN services and anonymity tools has made the investigation more complex, but efforts to identify the individual responsible remain ongoing.

Bushra Ansari urges people to understand the respo…

Veteran Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has sparked discussion with her recent comments about multiple marriages in Islam, urging people to focus on the responsibility and fairness that come with such a decision. While discussing the subject, Ansari emphasized that people often highlight the permission for a man to have up to four wives but pay less attention to the requirement of treating those wives fairly. Her remarks have renewed conversation about how Islamic teachings on marriage are understood and practiced in society. The Quran permits a Muslim man to marry up to four women, but it places an important condition on that permission. If a man fears that he will not be able to deal justly with multiple wives, the Quran directs him to marry only one. (IslamQA) This requirement of justice is at the heart of the discussion surrounding polygamy. It means that multiple marriage cannot simply be viewed as a privilege without responsibilities. A husband is expected to fulfill the rights of each wife and treat them fairly in matters within his control. Ansari’s comments appear to highlight this often-overlooked aspect. In societies where discussions about multiple marriages can become emotionally charged, her message encourages people to consider the consequences for everyone involved rather than focusing only on the number of marriages allowed. Islamic scholarship also emphasizes that justice between wives is a serious obligation. Financial responsibilities, living arrangements, time and other practical rights are among the areas in which fairness is expected. If a person believes he cannot fulfill these responsibilities, choosing one marriage is the safer course. (IslamQA) The subject is particularly sensitive because marriage involves more than a legal relationship. It affects spouses, children and extended families. A decision that is made without careful consideration can create emotional and financial difficulties for everyone involved. Pakistan’s legal framework also places regulations around multiple marriages. Under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, a man seeking another marriage while already married is subject to specific legal requirements, including approaching an Arbitration Council for permission. Pakistani courts have also upheld the importance of these legal procedures. (Pakistan Lawyer) Ansari’s remarks therefore arrive amid an ongoing conversation about the difference between religious permission and personal responsibility. The fact that something is permitted under certain conditions does not mean those conditions can simply be ignored. Her comments have encouraged audiences to look at the broader principles behind marriage: fairness, responsibility, respect and protection of rights. For couples and families, these principles can be just as important as the legal question of whether another marriage is permitted. Ultimately, the discussion surrounding Bushra Ansari’s statement is less about simply counting marriages and more about understanding the responsibilities that accompany them. Her message serves as a reminder that when people discuss religious rights, they should also acknowledge the duties and accountability that come with those rights.

Jennifer Garner honors Ben Affleck’s late mother with tribute

Jennifer Garner appeared to honor her former mother-in-law, Chris Anne Boldt, with a meaningful fashion choice during a recent outing in Los Angeles. The actress was seen visiting the Brentwood Farmers Market on Sunday, dressed casually in a white T-shirt featuring the French phrase “Maman Je T’aime,” which translates to “I love you, Mom.” The simple yet touching message drew attention as it came weeks after the passing of Ben Affleck’s mother. Chris Anne Boldt died on June 2 at the age of 83 after battling pancreatic cancer. According to her family, she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She had been diagnosed with the disease in December 2025, and her death marked a difficult loss for the Affleck family. Although Jennifer Garner has not publicly commented on the meaning behind her outfit, many viewed the shirt as a subtle and respectful tribute to Chris. Garner has long maintained a close and supportive relationship with Ben Affleck’s family, even after the couple ended their marriage. Jennifer and Ben were married from 2009 until their separation in 2015. Despite their divorce, they have remained committed to co-parenting their three children and are often seen together during family events. Their ability to maintain an amicable relationship has frequently been praised, with both stars putting their children’s well-being first. The former couple shares three children: Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 12. Over the years, Garner and Affleck have continued to support one another as parents while keeping their family life as stable as possible. Ben Affleck has previously spoken with great admiration about his mother and the influence she had on his life and career. In an earlier interview, the Oscar-winning actor described Chris as a dedicated educator who valued learning and hard work. He shared that his mother taught in public schools after studying at Harvard University, where she also earned her master’s degree. She spent years teaching fifth- and sixth-grade students, leaving a lasting impact on those she educated. Affleck also reflected on his father’s different background, explaining that he worked a variety of jobs, including as an auto mechanic, bartender, and janitor at Harvard. The actor has often credited both of his parents for shaping his values and perspective. Jennifer Garner has generally kept her personal life private, especially when it comes to family matters. However, her appearance at the farmers market wearing a shirt with such an affectionate message has led many fans to believe it was a quiet gesture of remembrance following Chris Anne Boldt’s passing. While neither Garner nor Affleck has addressed the speculation, the outing highlighted the enduring bond between their families. Garner’s thoughtful choice of clothing was widely seen as a sign of compassion and respect, reflecting the close connection she shared with Ben Affleck’s mother despite the end of their marriage.
