Who chairs the Senate committees under Gatchalian?

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate has undergone a series of leadership shakeups in recent months.

On May 11, Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and replaced by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in a surprise leadership coup. Cayetano’s tenure was marked by turmoil, prompting a couple of his allies to withdraw their support and eventually elect Senator Win Gatchalian as Senate president in June.

The leadership consequently led to changes in the chairmanships of several Senate committees. The roster of committee chairpersons under the Gatchalian Senate presidency is now complete.

Senators Rodante Marcoleta and Jinggoy Estrada, both in jail for separate plunder cases, were tapped to chair the committee on tourism and committee on electoral reforms and people’s participation, respectively.

Senator Mark Villar, whose family has interests in the banking industry through AllBank, was picked to chair the committee on banks, financial Institutions, and currencies.
