Sanya Malhotra says desi ‘acts of service’ hurt women

Sanya Malhotra has spoken about breaking old patterns in her own family. She admitted she “forced” her mother to step back from the kitchen and focus on herself instead.

According to her, the habit of women expressing love through nonstop service is not healthy. In many South Asian homes, she said, women spend their days caring for others while their own goals get set aside.

She brought this up in a recent interview. Her own house followed the same pattern growing up. Women stayed in the kitchen. Men waited around for things to be handed to them. She said she didn’t fully see how much pressure her mother was under until she moved away to Mumbai.

One memory stood out for her. Her mother once cried simply because she felt too sick to cook. Sanya told her that food had nothing to do with love. She explained that cooking is just one way people show care, not the only way it can be shown.

That moment shifted things at home. Sanya started nudging her parents away from old habits. Her mother now listens when Sanya tells her to skip the kitchen for a day. She said it makes her proud watching her mother take time for herself in the mornings instead of rushing straight to chores.

Her father was not left out either. Sanya said she often pushed him to do small things, like getting his own glass of water or making a simple meal. She admitted the change has not fully stuck yet, but she keeps reminding him.

She connected all of this to her character in Mrs. In the film, she plays a newlywed whose entire identity gets swallowed by household duties. Sanya said many women tell her the story feels personal to them. That response, she said, leaves her both upset and hopeful, since even a small shift in mindset feels worth it to her.

She also called out how sacrifice tends to get romanticised, especially when it comes to mothers. Women, she said, are often expected to give up their own dreams the moment they become parents.

Talking about her mother’s past, Sanya revealed she once wanted to become a fashion designer. It took her years to understand her mother had dreams of her own beyond raising a family.

As for the criticism Mrs received, Sanya said none of it bothered her. She said she has no interest in defending her views to people who never even watched the film.

She last appeared in Netflix’s Toaster and is currently working on Bandar and Sundar Poonam.

Rubio and Bessent stayed aboard decoy jet as Trump…

Two members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet remained aboard a decoy aircraft after Trump quietly departed the plane and boarded a different flight while in Turkey last month, according to a US television network report. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stayed on what was widely believed to be Air Force One and did not join the alternate flight arranged for Trump due to security concerns tied to Iran. Trump boarded Air Force One on July 8 alongside both officials as well as members of the traveling press before slipping away via a catering truck, which transported him discreetly to a separate military aircraft. Because the designation “Air Force One” applies to whichever plane the president occupies, the original aircraft retained the call sign even after Trump had already left it, effectively turning it into the decoy. According to the report, Rubio and Bessent remained on the first aircraft in order to preserve the presidential line of succession in case anything happened to Trump during the flight. Under that line of succession, Vice President JD Vance would assume power if the president died or became incapacitated, followed by the Speaker of the House and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. The Secretary of State ranks next in the order, followed by the Treasury Secretary. Others who stayed aboard the original aircraft designated as Air Force One included White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and White House communications director Steven Cheung. The second aircraft that carried Trump out of Ankara also included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to separate US media reports. Speaking to reporters Monday night, Trump said the decision to carry out the plane switch came from the US military and the Secret Service, who he said wanted him to travel on a different aircraft. He did not provide specifics about the nature of the security threat, saying only that he regularly receives numerous threats and that any consequential president faces the same. A request for comment sent to the White House had not been answered as of publication.

Spiderman-A Brand New Day- a film of identity and resilience

“I am not just Peter Parker, I am Spiderman, and sometimes Spiderman has to do hard things, leaving Peter Parker’s heart broken.” This sentence lies at the heart of the film. Spiderman must help the people of New York even if that comes at the cost of his personal happiness. He has distanced himself from those he used to know, such as his girlfriend MJ and his friend Ned. Spider-Man: A Brand New Day has been directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is a Marvel Studios production. It falls into the genre of action, sci-fi and adventure. With a runtime of 2 hours and 24 minutes, it has been rated at 8.2/10 on IMDB. The plot is a fight of good against evil. The damage control centre kills Sarah, Jean’s sister, for her special powers. Jean is in their imprisonment. Bill, the director of Damage Control, seeks Spider-Man’s help to eliminate Jean. Spiderman does not know the truth, and he helps Bill. What is the truth? Will Spider-Man find out in time? The film follows a flashback where Jean and Sarah are together, and the damage control employees kidnap Sarah. The damage control is after V. Max, and no one knows what it is. Jean possesses extraordinary psychic abilities. Jean can get into people’s minds. She can control their minds and possess them. She has powers she cannot curb. As Spiderman follows the trail and puts two and two together, he realises Bill was the real culprit. As Jean tries to destroy Bill, Spiderman convinces her not to. Once again, the film shows that Spider-Man’s greatest strength is compassion and not brute force. Spiderman helps Jean understand the healing power of love. He promises to stay by her side. In the subplot is Peter Parker’s romantic relationship with MJ (Zendaya). The relationship on the verge of destruction is restored as MJ remembers the time she spent with Peter. Spiderman is severely injured at the end, and as Jean uses her magical powers to cure him, she is successful. The film offers a bit of comic relief when Spider-Man exits the hospital without being noticed. It sends the audience into peals of laughter. The characterisation is superb. Tom Holland’s (Peter Parker) performance is outstanding. Tom appears as a more mature Spider-Man who carries the burden of immense personal sacrifice without losing his compassion and sense of humour. Zendaya (MJ) also spontaneously delivers her role. The chemistry between the two is striking despite the heartbreaking distance between them. Visually, the film is spectacular. The web singing sequences through NewYork are exhilarating, and the cinematography is great. The thematic concerns are of identity, sacrifice, loneliness and hope. Peter’s struggle to rebuild his life after having lost everything makes him more relatable than ever. Spiderman- A Brand New Day follows the film Spiderman: No Way Home, documenting Peter Parker’s journey since then. As Parker is faced with a choice to either be Spiderman or Peter he chooses to be both. At the end, the film promises another movie, calling it Spiderman Returns. On the whole, Spiderman: A Brand New Day is a story about resilience and selflessness, and it remains true to the character of  Spiderman. It delivers thrilling action and heartfelt performances. A great film that deserves applause. So grab your tickets before they run out!

Meera reveals her fee for government-funded films

Renowned Pakistani film actress Meera has revealed that she charges PKR 5 million for acting in films produced with government funding. The statement came during a recent interview, where she openly discussed her professional fees and shared her views on the future of Pakistan’s film industry. During the interview, Meera said that if the government is unable to make a cash payment for her services, it could compensate her by granting ownership of one or two cinema halls instead. Her remarks quickly attracted public attention, as they presented an unconventional suggestion for payment and sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms. Explaining her perspective, Meera emphasized that the revival and long-term growth of Pakistan’s film industry require greater investment and stronger infrastructure. According to the actress, cinemas are one of the most important pillars of the film business because they provide filmmakers with a platform to showcase their work and generate revenue. She suggested that ownership of cinema halls could be a meaningful investment for artists while also contributing to the overall development of the entertainment industry. Meera noted that Pakistan’s film sector has faced numerous challenges over the years, including a shortage of modern cinema facilities, limited investment, and fluctuating audience turnout. She believes that improving cinema infrastructure would encourage more filmmakers to produce quality content and attract larger audiences back to theaters. In her opinion, strengthening the exhibition side of the industry is just as important as producing films. The actress’s comments were made during a candid conversation in which she reflected on the financial realities of working in the entertainment industry. While discussing her compensation, she stated that her professional experience and contributions to Pakistani cinema justify the fee she charges for government-funded productions. She also suggested that creative alternatives to direct financial payments could benefit both artists and the industry as a whole. A short video clip from the interview was later shared on social media, where it quickly went viral. The clip generated significant public interest and prompted widespread debate among internet users. Many people were surprised by Meera’s suggestion of receiving cinema ownership instead of cash, while others viewed her comments as a broader discussion about the need to invest in Pakistan’s entertainment infrastructure. Social media users expressed a wide range of opinions regarding Meera’s remarks. Some supported her argument, saying that the Pakistani film industry requires substantial investment and better facilities to compete with international cinema. They believed that her comments highlighted the importance of developing modern theaters and creating sustainable opportunities for filmmakers and actors. Others, however, questioned the practicality of her proposal and debated whether government resources should be used in such a manner. Some users focused on the amount of her stated fee, while others interpreted her remarks as symbolic rather than a literal demand. The differing reactions led to an active online discussion about artist compensation, government support for the arts, and the future of Pakistan’s film industry. Although Meera’s statements have generated mixed reactions, they have once again brought attention to the ongoing challenges facing Pakistan’s cinema sector. Her comments have encouraged conversations about investment, infrastructure, and the role of government in supporting the country’s creative industries. Whether viewed as a serious proposal or a thought-provoking opinion, her remarks have succeeded in reigniting public debate about the future of Pakistani cinema and the measures needed to help the industry grow and thrive.

PML-N’s clean sweep in AJK refugee seats ref…

ISLAMABAD: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry on Sunday said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s victory on all three refugee seats in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections reflected the confidence of Kashmiri refugees and the people of Rawalpindi in the leadership of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Speaking at a press conference, Chaudhry thanked voters, Kashmiri refugees and party workers for what he described as a historic electoral success, saying the results reaffirmed the party’s strong support among the refugee community. He said the outcome of the elections was a clear endorsement of the PML-N’s political narrative and leadership, adding that the party had once again demonstrated its close connection with Kashmiri refugees by securing all three seats. The parliamentary secretary said the election mandate showed that the PML-N remained the principal political representative of Kashmiri refugees. Criticising rival parties, Chaudhry claimed that the Pakistan Peoples Party failed to attract significant voter support during the polls, alleging that its polling camps remained largely deserted throughout election day. He also said the party’s post-election press conference reflected its electoral performance. The PML-N has termed the clean sweep a major political achievement, saying it would further strengthen the party’s position among Kashmiri refugees ahead of future political contests.

Shahid Afridi faces backlash over fan video

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has come under criticism after a video showing him pushing away a fan went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place as Afridi was being escorted through a crowd. In the circulating footage, a young fan can be seen approaching the former cricketer before Afridi appears to push him away. The video quickly gained attention online, with users expressing disappointment over the former cricketer’s apparent reaction. Several social media users questioned whether celebrities should treat fans more respectfully, particularly when people approach them out of admiration. Afridi remains one of Pakistan’s most recognisable former cricketers. During his playing career, he built a huge following because of his aggressive batting, powerful hitting and energetic personality. Even after retiring from international cricket, he has remained in the public eye through charity initiatives, television appearances and social media activity. However, the latest video has shifted attention toward his interaction with the fan. Some users called for Afridi to explain the situation or apologise, while others criticised what they described as an unfriendly attitude. At the same time, the short clip does not provide the full context of what happened before or after the incident. It is therefore unclear what prompted Afridi’s reaction or whether there were circumstances surrounding the encounter that are not visible in the footage. The video continues to circulate across social media platforms, generating mixed reactions among users. While some have strongly criticised Afridi, others have urged people not to judge the complete situation based solely on a brief clip.
