Spiderman-A Brand New Day- a film of identity and resilience

“I am not just Peter Parker, I am Spiderman, and sometimes Spiderman has to do hard things, leaving Peter Parker’s heart broken.”

This sentence lies at the heart of the film. Spiderman must help the people of New York even if that comes at the cost of his personal happiness. He has distanced himself from those he used to know, such as his girlfriend MJ and his friend Ned.

Spider-Man: A Brand New Day has been directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is a Marvel Studios production. It falls into the genre of action, sci-fi and adventure. With a runtime of 2 hours and 24 minutes, it has been rated at 8.2/10 on IMDB.

The plot is a fight of good against evil. The damage control centre kills Sarah, Jean’s sister, for her special powers. Jean is in their imprisonment. Bill, the director of Damage Control, seeks Spider-Man’s help to eliminate Jean. Spiderman does not know the truth, and he helps Bill. What is the truth? Will Spider-Man find out in time?

The film follows a flashback where Jean and Sarah are together, and the damage control employees kidnap Sarah. The damage control is after V. Max, and no one knows what it is.

Jean possesses extraordinary psychic abilities. Jean can get into people’s minds. She can control their minds and possess them. She has powers she cannot curb.

As Spiderman follows the trail and puts two and two together, he realises Bill was the real culprit. As Jean tries to destroy Bill, Spiderman convinces her not to. Once again, the film shows that Spider-Man’s greatest strength is compassion and not brute force.

Spiderman helps Jean understand the healing power of love. He promises to stay by her side.

In the subplot is Peter Parker’s romantic relationship with MJ (Zendaya). The relationship on the verge of destruction is restored as MJ remembers the time she spent with Peter.

Spiderman is severely injured at the end, and as Jean uses her magical powers to cure him, she is successful.

The film offers a bit of comic relief when Spider-Man exits the hospital without being noticed. It sends the audience into peals of laughter.

The characterisation is superb. Tom Holland’s (Peter Parker) performance is outstanding. Tom appears as a more mature Spider-Man who carries the burden of immense personal sacrifice without losing his compassion and sense of humour.

Zendaya (MJ) also spontaneously delivers her role. The chemistry between the two is striking despite the heartbreaking distance between them.

Visually, the film is spectacular. The web singing sequences through NewYork are exhilarating, and the cinematography is great.

The thematic concerns are of identity, sacrifice, loneliness and hope. Peter’s struggle to rebuild his life after having lost everything makes him more relatable than ever.

Spiderman- A Brand New Day follows the film Spiderman: No Way Home, documenting Peter Parker’s journey since then.

As Parker is faced with a choice to either be Spiderman or Peter he chooses to be both.

At the end, the film promises another movie, calling it Spiderman Returns. On the whole, Spiderman: A Brand New Day is a story about resilience and selflessness, and it remains true to the character of  Spiderman. It delivers thrilling action and heartfelt performances. A great film that deserves applause.

Highlighting the event’s distinct appeal, festival coordinator Mehmet Halis Aydogan explained how Cappadocia’s natural geography and existing flight operations set it apart from other international ballooning venues: “Balloon festivals are held in many parts of the world, including major events in the United States, France, Belgium, and Mexico. Cappadocia’s greatest advantage is its extraordinary landscape, where 156 balloons fly every day. It is a place where thousands of people come both to fly in hot air balloons and to watch them. When we decorate the skies with special-shaped balloons, it creates an incredible spectacle. That is what distinguishes us most from other festivals.” A key highlight of this year’s gathering will be the debut of a whale-shaped balloon designed by sixth-grade student Bengi Serra Kaya. Her entry won first prize in the “My Dream Balloon Design Competition,” organized for primary and middle school students, and the specially manufactured balloon will take its inaugural flight during the festival. Cappadocia remains one of the world’s premier hot air balloon destinations, drawing hundreds of thousands of international tourists annually.     Private sector gets record Rs1.138 trillion loans in FY2025-26

    Pakistan’s private sector secured bank financing worth Rs1.138 trillion during the fiscal year 2025-26, marking the highest level of private-sector credit in the last four years, according to Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Shahzad. In a statement, Shahzad said the sharp increase in lending reflects improving economic conditions, stronger business confidence, and the government’s efforts to encourage investment and industrial growth. He noted that private-sector credit expanded by approximately 15 percent during the fiscal year compared to the previous year. The adviser highlighted that greater access to financing has played a key role in supporting business expansion and productive economic activities across the country. He added that around 89 percent of the newly disbursed loans were directed toward major productive sectors, including manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, and agriculture. According to Shahzad, the manufacturing sector alone received fresh financing of Rs657 billion, enabling industries to expand production capacity, modernize operations, and meet growing market demand. He said the significant flow of funds into manufacturing demonstrates renewed confidence in Pakistan’s industrial sector. He further stated that increased financial support for the trade and agriculture sectors has contributed to higher production, stronger commercial activity, and improved investment by private businesses. Enhanced credit availability, he said, is helping enterprises expand operations, create employment opportunities, and strengthen overall economic performance. Shahzad described the record lending as a positive indicator of the country’s economic recovery, saying that rising private-sector borrowing reflects improving investor sentiment and greater confidence in Pakistan’s financial system. He added that sustained access to bank financing would remain essential for maintaining economic momentum, boosting productivity, and supporting long-term, sustainable growth.

    Bodies of Nirmal Purja, three teammates recovered …

    SKARDU: Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of celebrated British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja and three members of his expedition from Broad Peak after a difficult recovery mission, the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed. The recovery operation was carried out in extremely challenging weather and terrain. The bodies of Purja, Chinese climber Zhong Wang, and Nepali climbers Nima Sherpa and Kilu Sherpa were successfully brought to Broad Peak Base Camp. The tragic incident occurred on July 30, when an avalanche struck the 10-member international expedition while climbing Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains. Contact with the team was lost immediately after the avalanche. Purja’s company later confirmed that there were no survivors from the expedition. Despite the successful recovery of four bodies, three climbers remain missing. The Alpine Club of Pakistan said search efforts would continue whenever weather and mountain conditions permit. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to locating the remaining climbers so their families can receive closure. Earlier, the bodies of three other expedition members—an American woman, an Omani woman and a Nepali climber—were airlifted from the mountain to Skardu. However, the bodies of two Nepali nationals and one Pakistani climber have yet to be recovered. The deaths have deeply affected the global mountaineering community.
