Drew Starkey recalls emotional final day on Outer …

Saying goodbye to Outer Banks was far more emotional than Drew Starkey expected.

The 32-year-old actor, who has played Rafe Cameron since the Netflix series debuted in 2020, recently revealed that he broke down in tears after filming his final scene for the show’s fifth and final season. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Starkey reflected on wrapping up a journey that lasted seven years and shaped a significant chapter of his life.

During the interview, Starkey admitted that he believed he was handling the show’s ending surprisingly well while filming the final episodes. He joked that he even wondered if something was wrong because he wasn’t feeling emotional during the last few months on set.

“It was totally bittersweet,” Starkey said. “We spent seven years on that show and those are my best friends.” He explained that he thought he was ready to move on, but everything changed the moment cameras stopped rolling on his final scene.

“The last shot of my last scene, right when they yelled ‘cut,’ I was just weeping,” Starkey shared. The actor said he cried continuously for nearly two hours as cast and crew members came over to comfort him. Every conversation brought fresh tears, making it impossible for him to hold back his emotions.

Looking back, Starkey said the overwhelming reaction came from realizing how much time had passed. He joined Outer Banks when he was 25 years old and is now 32. As filming ended, memories from the past seven years came rushing back, reminding him of the friendships, experiences and personal growth he had gained through the series.

The emotional farewell comes as Outer Banks prepares for its fifth and final season, which promises to bring the popular adventure drama to an exciting conclusion. The new season follows the Pogues after the devastating loss of JJ, forcing them to face dangerous enemies while embarking on one last mission together. The story also sees Rafe Cameron becoming an uneasy ally as the group fights for its future.

For fans, Starkey’s heartfelt comments highlight just how close the cast became during the making of the hit series. What started as a teen adventure drama evolved into one of Netflix’s biggest franchises, creating lifelong friendships behind the scenes.

Although saying goodbye was difficult, Starkey’s emotional farewell reflects the impact Outer Banks had on everyone involved. As the final season approaches, viewers can expect an ending filled with action, emotion and nostalgia, while the cast celebrates a remarkable journey that has lasted nearly a decade.

Young Pakistani batter Khawaja Nafay has signed with Jaffna Kings ahead of the new LPL season. The promising right-handed batter has been drafted into the squad as a replacement for Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran, who is unavailable for the competition. Naafay’s inclusion provides the Jaffna Kings with an exciting batting option as they prepare for the tournament. The youngster has been regarded as one of Pakistan’s emerging talents and will have the opportunity to showcase his skills in one of South Asia’s premier T20 leagues. Playing alongside experienced international cricketers is expected to provide him with valuable exposure and help accelerate his development. Meanwhile, Pakistan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed has also earned an LPL contract after being signed by Dambulla Sixers. He joins the franchise as the replacement for Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi. Iftikhar brings considerable experience to the Dambulla squad with his ability to contribute in multiple departments. Known for his powerful middle-order batting and useful off-spin bowling, he has represented Pakistan in all three international formats and has featured in numerous T20 leagues around the world. His versatility is expected to strengthen the team’s balance as it aims to challenge for the LPL title. Infantino’s future in doubt after FIFA rights controversy

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing growing criticism after abandoning a controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights of the FIFA World Cup, a move that has raised questions about his leadership and decision-making within world football’s governing body. The proposal sparked strong opposition from several football organizations, particularly regional confederations and professional leagues, who argued that such a major commercial decision should not have been pursued without broader consultation. Critics believe the plan exposed concerns over transparency and governance at FIFA. Claudius Schaefer, the chairman of the organization representing 53 professional men’s and women’s football leagues across Europe and the chief executive of the Swiss Football League, said the handling of the proposal had seriously damaged confidence in FIFA’s leadership. According to Schaefer, the situation would have significant consequences in most organizations, especially when a senior executive advances a major business initiative without informing or involving key governing bodies. He suggested that the controversy has left Infantino’s position under increased scrutiny. The proposal was officially withdrawn after widespread resistance from football stakeholders. The decision came following criticism from various regional football confederations, with UEFA and CONCACAF publicly expressing that they had lost confidence in Infantino’s leadership after the episode. Schaefer argued that the failed proposal reflected a broader concern about FIFA’s priorities. He said the organization appeared increasingly focused on generating greater commercial revenue rather than protecting the long-term interests of football competitions, players, clubs, and domestic leagues. He also warned that expanding commercial opportunities could encourage FIFA to create even larger tournaments and increase the number of international matches. Such developments, he said, would place additional pressure on an already crowded football calendar. Professional leagues have repeatedly voiced concerns over fixture congestion, arguing that players are being asked to participate in too many matches throughout the season. Domestic competitions, they say, often bear the consequences when international tournaments continue to expand. Schaefer emphasized that national leagues remain the foundation of professional football and should not be weakened by decisions aimed primarily at increasing commercial returns. He argued that any future reforms to international competitions must balance financial objectives with the welfare of players and the health of domestic football. Another major point of criticism centered on FIFA’s decision-making process. Schaefer claimed that even members of the FIFA Council—the organization’s highest decision-making body—were reportedly unaware of the proposal before it became public. He described this lack of consultation as surprising and said it raised serious concerns about governance within FIFA. The controversy has intensified calls for greater transparency and accountability in football administration. Many stakeholders believe decisions involving the commercial future of the World Cup should involve extensive discussion with FIFA’s governing bodies, member associations, leagues, and other key partners before being considered. Although FIFA has now withdrawn the proposal, the fallout continues to fuel debate over leadership, governance, and the future direction of world football. With criticism coming from influential football organizations across different regions, pressure remains on Infantino to rebuild trust and demonstrate a more inclusive approach to decision-making on matters affecting the global game.

Recent photos and videos from the film’s production have quickly gone viral across social media platforms. While many fans admired his new hairstyle and youthful appearance, others began speculating that he may have undergone subtle cosmetic enhancements. The actor’s smoother facial features and refreshed look prompted online discussions, with some social media users suggesting that treatments such as Botox or dermal fillers could have contributed to the change. Others believed his appearance was simply the result of professional grooming, better lighting, makeup, or natural aging. Several fans also noticed that Fawad appears slimmer than before. His visible weight loss led to further speculation, with some users wondering whether it could be related to lifestyle changes or health management. Others even guessed that weight-loss medication might have played a role. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding these claims. Comments on social media reflected a wide range of opinions. Some users praised the actor for looking fresh and stylish, while others expressed surprise at how different he appeared. A few jokingly asked for the name of the cosmetic surgeon they believed had enhanced his appearance, while others insisted the transformation was likely due to his haircut and overall styling rather than cosmetic procedures. Sindh schools adopt facial recognition attendance

The Sindh government has approved the introduction of a Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES) in public schools as part of a broader effort to improve governance, transparency and accountability in the education sector. The decision was taken during a meeting of the School Education Department chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The meeting was attended by Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah, the chief secretary and other senior government officials. During the meeting, the education minister gave a detailed briefing on the proposed system and informed participants that all technical preparations for its implementation have been completed. He said the project is designed to introduce data-driven governance and improve monitoring of teachers and non-teaching staff across government schools. According to the briefing, the first phase of the project will begin in six districts, with one district selected from each division of Sindh. Registration of teachers and non-teaching employees in these districts has already been completed, paving the way for the system’s launch. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced that the new attendance system will become operational in the selected districts from August 17. If the pilot phase is successful, it will be expanded gradually to all districts across the province. Under the FRAMES system, attendance of teachers and school staff will be recorded through facial recognition technology. Officials said the system will automatically record employees’ arrival and departure times, creating a secure, accurate and tamper-proof attendance record. The education department also informed the meeting that geo-tagging of government schools has been completed. Officials said the system has been designed to function effectively even in remote areas with weak internet connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring throughout the province. Murad Ali Shah said improving teachers’ attendance is essential for raising educational standards and ensuring quality education for students. He said every child has the right to receive quality education, and achieving that goal requires teachers and school staff to perform their duties regularly and responsibly. The chief minister emphasized that the use of modern technology would strengthen accountability and improve discipline within the education system. He said digital monitoring would help eliminate irregularities, increase transparency and provide education authorities with reliable data for decision-making. He directed officials to establish an effective support and monitoring mechanism during the initial implementation phase. He also instructed the education department to provide schools with all necessary technical assistance and training to ensure the smooth operation of the new system. Officials said information collected through the facial recognition platform will help education authorities evaluate attendance patterns, improve administrative oversight and identify areas requiring further reforms. They added that the initiative is expected to enhance institutional discipline, strengthen governance and improve the overall performance of public schools.

Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to establish new defence cooperation mechanisms

ANKARA: Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are set to establish new political and military coordination mechanisms following the signing of a landmark joint defence agreement, as the three countries move to strengthen strategic cooperation amid growing security concerns in the region. Türkiye’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday that the framework agreed by the three countries would bring senior political and military leadership into a structured mechanism aimed at enhancing coordination on defence and security matters. The three nations signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement on August 7, marking a significant development in their security relations. The agreement comes at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East, with the escalation of regional hostilities raising security concerns among Gulf states and other countries in the region. Under the agreement, an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be treated as an attack against all members. The provision establishes a collective-defence commitment similar in principle to the collective security arrangement contained in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). High-level political and military coordination According to the Turkish Defence Ministry, the new mechanisms will involve the defence ministers, foreign ministers and military chiefs of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The arrangement is expected to provide the three countries with a regular platform for consultations on regional security developments, defence policy and potential threats. It could also facilitate closer coordination between their armed forces and government institutions. The agreement reflects the growing strategic importance of cooperation between the three Muslim-majority countries, particularly as regional security challenges continue to evolve. Joint military exercises planned The Turkish ministry also said the three countries were planning joint military exercises under the new defence framework. Such exercises could provide opportunities for their armed forces to improve interoperability, exchange operational experience and strengthen their ability to coordinate during potential security crises. Defence cooperation is also expected to extend beyond military exercises. The Turkish side said the agreement could pave the way for greater collaboration in the defence industry, including joint production, technology sharing and other forms of industrial cooperation. The expanded defence-industry partnership could allow the three countries to explore opportunities for developing and producing defence equipment together while sharing technical expertise and capabilities. Agreement follows rising regional tensions The pact was signed against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East, which have raised concerns over the security of Gulf countries and critical energy infrastructure. The escalation has also highlighted the importance of collective security arrangements and closer coordination among regional powers. For Pakistan, the agreement represents another step towards strengthening defence and strategic ties with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. Islamabad has traditionally maintained close military and diplomatic relations with both countries. The agreement is therefore expected to broaden cooperation from traditional bilateral defence relations towards a more structured trilateral framework involving political consultations, military coordination and defence-industrial collaboration. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also clarified the scope and intent of the Makkah agreement, stressing the nature of the arrangement and its broader security objectives. The three countries are now expected to work out the details of the new mechanisms, including the structure of ministerial consultations, military coordination and proposed joint exercises.

Parliamentary inquiry finds UK Ministry of Defence Afghan data breach was a foreseeable failure

A parliamentary inquiry by the UK House of Commons Defence Committee has concluded that a major data breach by the British Ministry of Defence was a foreseeable systemic failure rather than an isolated mistake. The leak exposed the personal details of over 18,500 Afghan applicants fleeing the Taliban. It occurred when a staff member at the UK Special Forces headquarters in England emailed an unencrypted Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing the entire applicant database to a third party. The compromised individuals had applied for the UK’s Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy after working alongside British forces during the war in Afghanistan. The committee’s report severely criticised the UK Ministry of Defence’s operational competence, stating that the British military department lacked the expertise to manage immigration casework and relied on a continuing cultural failure of using basic spreadsheet tools for sensitive data. Defence Committee Chairman Tan Dhesi condemned the UK Ministry of Defence for using operational secrecy as a “shield against proper accountability”, highlighting that a UK court-issued super-injunction barred the public and British parliamentarians from knowing about the breach between August 2023 and July 2025. The inquiry also highlighted administrative flaws in how former Afghan commandos were evaluated for UK resettlement. Internal records revealed a British Special Forces officer systematically rejected 1,585 applications from Afghan commandos in 2023 without approving a single case. Following a UK government review, 884 of those rejections were overturned. With former Afghan commandos remaining in hiding from Taliban reprisals, the parliamentary committee urged the British government to fulfill its responsibility to expedite the safe relocation of affected families to the UK.
