Met Gala 2027 to honour British fashion designer

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that celebrated British fashion designer John Galliano will be the focus of its Spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition, titled John Galliano: Horizons. The exhibition will also serve as the inspiration for the Met Gala 2027, making Galliano only the third living designer to receive a solo exhibition at the museum.
The announcement marks a significant milestone in Galliano’s career. Before him, only Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons in 2017 had been honoured with individual exhibitions while still alive. The Costume Institute exhibition will officially open on May 9, 2027, with the Met Gala serving as its traditional fundraising event before remaining on display until January 9, 2028.
According to the museum, John Galliano: Horizons will explore the designer’s extraordinary career, tracing his creative evolution from his acclaimed 1984 graduation collection at Central Saint Martins to his work at Givenchy, Christian Dior, his own label, and Maison Margiela. The exhibition will feature garments, sketches, research books and archival material drawn from the Costume Institute’s extensive collection.
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has long admired Galliano’s work, praised the designer while announcing the exhibition.
“There is no one more deserving of an exhibition of this scale than John Galliano,” Wintour said in a statement.
She continued, “His body of work, at Dior, Givenchy, Margiela, his namesake label and more, combines erudition and creativity, darkness and light, the past, the present, the future all smashing together in a brilliant way.”
The exhibition has been curated by Andrew Bolton, who explained the philosophy behind the project and why Galliano’s career remains an important subject in contemporary fashion.
Bolton described the exhibition as treating “fashion as a form of cartography, mapping not territories but affinities, tensions, and transformations.”
He further explained that the exhibition would examine “how Galliano has remapped the world through fashion and how his conduct, its consequences, and changing cultural values have reshaped our understanding of his work.”
Organisers have also confirmed that the exhibition will not avoid one of the most controversial chapters of Galliano’s life. In 2011, the designer was dismissed from both Christian Dior and his own fashion label after making racist and antisemitic remarks. He was later convicted by a Paris court for public insults based on race, religion and ethnicity.
According to The New York Times, the museum’s decision to move forward with the exhibition followed a private meeting held in May between Galliano, Andrew Bolton, Anna Wintour and several Jewish community leaders in New York.
Rather than overlooking the controversy, the exhibition aims to place it within the broader context of Galliano’s life and career, examining both his artistic achievements and the consequences of his actions.
With John Galliano: Horizons, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hopes to present a comprehensive look at one of fashion’s most influential and debated designers, while the Met Gala 2027 is expected to celebrate his lasting impact on the global fashion industry.

    Preparations are in full swing for the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, with polling scheduled for August 2 across Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee seats. The second phase will cover the three districts of Muzaffarabad Division—Muzaffarabad, Neelum and Jhelum Valley—as well as 12 constituencies reserved for Kashmiri refugees residing in Pakistan. According to election authorities, a total of 890,621 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the nine constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division. Of these, 427,955 are male voters, while 381,666 are female voters. To facilitate polling, 1,483 polling stations have been established across the division. District Muzaffarabad, which has five constituencies, will have 1,205 polling stations. District Neelum, comprising two constituencies, will have 278 polling stations, while 328 polling stations have been set up in the two constituencies of Jhelum Valley. A total of 208 candidates are contesting the nine seats in Muzaffarabad Division, making the second phase a closely watched electoral contest. Meanwhile, Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan will also cast their votes for 12 refugee constituencies, evenly divided between six Jammu seats and six Valley seats. The Jammu refugee constituencies include LA-34 Jammu-I through LA-39 Jammu-VI, while the Valley refugee constituencies comprise LA-40 Valley-I through LA-45 Valley-VI. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission will announce the results of all 12 refugee constituencies after the completion of polling. Authorities have said all necessary arrangements have been finalised to ensure a peaceful, transparent and orderly voting process during the second phase of the elections.

    IHC issues cause list with eight benches for next …

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Registrar’s Office has issued the cause list for the upcoming week. According to the cause list, eight benches will be available to hear cases during the week. These include six single benches and two division benches. The court has constituted two division benches to hear cases involving matters requiring consideration by two judges. The first division bench will comprise Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Umair Majid Malik. The second division bench will consist of Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Shah Rukh Arjumand. The cause list also includes six single benches. These benches will hear cases assigned to individual judges during the upcoming week. The six single benches will comprise Justice Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Muhammad Asif, Justice Ayaz Shaukat, Justice Umair Majid Malik and Justice Shah Rukh Arjumand. The Registrar’s Office has issued the schedule as part of the court’s regular judicial proceedings. Cases listed before the respective benches will be taken up according to the cause list. The cause list determines which cases are scheduled for hearing and which judges will hear them. Lawyers and litigants will appear before the relevant benches on the dates fixed by the court. The Islamabad High Court will continue hearing cases through the six single benches and two division benches during the coming week.

Relying on this provision, royalty payments to Cher were eventually halted in 2021, prompting the singer to file a lawsuit in federal court to enforce her long-standing rights. ​In late 2025, U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt ruled decisively in Cher’s favor, affirming that her right to receive a share of the song royalties was a binding contractual obligation established during her 1978 divorce settlement rather than a copyright grant subject to termination. As part of that decision, Cher was awarded over $418,000 in withheld composition royalties, confirming her ongoing entitlement to collect her share directly. ​Following that victory, Cher’s legal team filed a motion seeking to recoup $1,023,605 in attorney fees from Mary Bono, arguing that the widow had unnecessarily prolonged the litigation by introducing frivolous defenses. However, in a newly issued ruling, Judge Kronstadt denied Cher’s request for legal fee reimbursement. ​The judge clarified that because the lawsuit turned on interpreting California state contract law rather than federal copyright law, the automatic fee-shifting provisions typical of federal copyright cases did not apply. Consequently, Cher remains responsible for covering the substantial $1 million legal bill accumulated over four years of intense courtroom maneuvering. ​Despite the heavy financial cost of the litigation, the core ruling protects Cher’s long-term rights to the lucrative Sonny & Cher music catalog, ensuring her financial interests remain fully intact moving forward.

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that illness, physical weakness, old age or disability can serve as valid legal grounds for granting post-arrest bail, issuing an important judgment on bail applications filed on medical grounds. Justice Amjad Rafiq issued a detailed written verdict while deciding the post-arrest bail petition of Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, who is suffering from Parkinsonism, a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and physical independence. The court observed that if a prison medical report confirms that an accused is physically weak, there is no need to separately assess the severity of the illness. It held that physical weakness itself may be sufficient to justify consideration for bail. According to the judgment, illness and physical weakness are separate legal grounds for granting bail. The court noted that imprisonment can cause greater hardship for elderly, physically weak and disabled individuals, and the justice system should protect them from unnecessary physical suffering. The LHC further stated that the bail application had not been filed on the merits of the criminal case but solely because of the accused’s deteriorating physical condition. The prison medical report confirmed that Dr Iftikhar Ahmed was suffering from Parkinsonism, a disease that gradually limits a person’s physical abilities and independence. Rejecting the prosecution’s argument, the court ruled that the mere fact an accused is receiving medical treatment in prison cannot, by itself, be used as a reason to deny bail. The judgment also referred to principles of Islamic law and international judicial precedents, stating that sick, elderly and vulnerable individuals are entitled to special legal protection and humane treatment. The Lahore High Court granted post-arrest bail to Dr Iftikhar Ahmed against surety bonds of Rs1 million. The court directed the accused not to influence prosecution witnesses, to surrender his passport and not to leave the court’s jurisdiction without prior permission. Dr Iftikhar Ahmed has been in jail since March 2025 in a case registered at Sabzazar Police Station, where he is accused of administering an incorrect injection to a citizen’s son. The criminal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law.

    Miss North Carolina loses crown after allegations

    Miss North Carolina USA Brittany Boltinhouse has been removed from her title following a review of information that recently came to light, pageant organisers announced. A Blaize Productions, which runs the state pageant, said it had made the decision to end Boltinhouse’s reign after examining the circumstances. Miss USA organisation president Thom Brodeur said the organisation does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia or language that degrades or strips people of their dignity. Brodeur said the issue was not linked to a single incident. According to him, the information presented to the organisation pointed to conduct that had allegedly occurred over an extended period. He said Boltinhouse had apologised and was expected to issue a statement addressing the matter. She has not publicly provided details about the circumstances leading to her removal. Boltinhouse, 27, won the Miss North Carolina USA title in June. She had been preparing to represent the state at the 75th Miss USA competition in Miami later this month. Organisers said the decision was not taken lightly and followed a “thorough review” of recently surfaced information. They said the action was necessary to protect the integrity of the title and uphold the organisation’s standards. The state’s runner-up, Myla Hadley, will now take over the title and represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant. Hadley said she understood the significance and responsibility attached to the position and was prepared to take on the role despite the short notice. She said she had been preparing to represent North Carolina at the national competition since she first entered the organisation’s pageant system. The winner of the upcoming Miss USA competition will go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in November.
