Spider-Man: Brand New Day has proven that even a major piracy leak cannot slow down one of Marvel’s biggest theatrical events in years.

Just hours before the highly anticipated film officially premiered, a high-quality bootleg copy reportedly surfaced online and quickly spread across X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. The leak sparked concerns that piracy could hurt the movie’s opening-day performance, with fans urged across social media to avoid spoilers and support the official theatrical release. 

Despite those fears, the latest Spider-Man adventure bounced back in spectacular fashion.

According to early box office figures, Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned an astonishing $72 million in preview screenings, setting a new Marvel record. The figure surpassed the previous preview record of $60 million, which had been held by Avengers: Endgame since 2019. The milestone highlights the enormous excitement surrounding Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker and demonstrates that audience demand remained strong despite the piracy concerns. 

Industry analysts now expect the film to deliver one of the biggest opening weekends in box office history, with projections ranging between $260 million and $280 million worldwide. If those estimates hold, Brand New Day will cement itself as one of Marvel Studios’ most successful launches ever. 

The overwhelming interest is hardly surprising. The film marks Holland’s first solo Spider-Man outing since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The story follows Peter Parker as he struggles with life after Doctor Strange’s memory spell erased his identity from the world. Living in isolation, Peter faces emotional challenges while confronting dangerous new enemies in a fresh chapter for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

Marvel has also benefited from an extensive promotional campaign leading up to the release. Earlier this year, the movie’s trailer generated unprecedented online attention, becoming the biggest trailer launch in history with more than 719 million views in its first 24 hours. That record later placed it ahead of the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, underlining just how much anticipation surrounded the Spider-Man sequel long before tickets went on sale. 

The recent piracy incident nevertheless serves as another reminder of the growing challenge facing major Hollywood releases. High-profile films increasingly become targets for online leaks, forcing studios to step up security while encouraging audiences to experience blockbusters in theaters instead of through illegal copies. 

For Marvel, however, the early results suggest the leak had little impact on audience enthusiasm. Instead of slowing momentum, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has swung past expectations, broken a long-standing Marvel preview record, and positioned itself as one of the defining box office successes of 2026.

These models are increasingly being put through real world testing during East Asia’s intense typhoon season, a period when even modest improvements in tracking a storm’s path can help authorities plan flood responses, coordinate evacuations and manage disruptions to transportation networks. Fengwu in particular has shown strong results in predicting storm trajectories, with researchers noting that AI based systems can produce forecasts far faster than conventional models while matching or, in some cases, surpassing them on certain accuracy measures. The rapid progress in AI driven weather forecasting has sparked growing competition among technology firms, research institutions and national meteorological agencies worldwide, with China establishing itself as one of the sector’s most active players. Even so, meteorologists caution that AI tools currently serve as a complement to physics based forecasting rather than a full replacement. These systems still struggle to accurately capture sudden shifts in storm intensity, and they remain largely untested when it comes to long term climate modeling. As a result, traditional forecasting methods are expected to remain a core part of weather prediction for the foreseeable future, even as AI tools continue to mature and take on a larger role alongside them. The push toward AI assisted forecasting fits into a broader global trend, as governments and research institutions increasingly explore machine learning as a tool for anticipating the growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather linked to a changing climate.

    Aamer Raza named Pakistan’s Strategic Commander

    Lieutenant General Syed Aamer Raza, HI(M), SBt, has been promoted to the rank of four-star general and appointed as the Commander of the National Strategic Command, marking a significant milestone in his military career. The appointment places one of the Pakistan Army’s most experienced senior officers at the helm of the country’s strategic command structure. General Aamer Raza has built a distinguished career through a series of key command, operational and administrative appointments. Before his promotion, he was serving as the Chief of the General Staff (CGS) at the General Headquarters (GHQ), one of the Pakistan Army’s most influential positions. As CGS, he oversaw operational planning, intelligence coordination and strategic military affairs, making the role central to the Army’s command structure. Military observers view his promotion as recognition of his extensive professional experience and leadership. His tenure as Chief of the General Staff provided him with broad exposure to strategic planning, operational decision-making and national security matters, qualities considered essential for leading the National Strategic Command. General Aamer Raza also possesses significant expertise in defence technology and military procurement. He previously served as Director General Weapons and Equipment, where he supervised the acquisition, maintenance and development of military hardware. In addition, he served as Chairman of Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), one of Pakistan’s leading defence production organisations, where he played a role in strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and modernisation efforts. Commissioned into the Armoured Corps, General Aamer Raza has held numerous command, staff and instructional appointments throughout his career. His service includes leadership roles at various operational formations as well as senior positions within military institutions, giving him extensive experience in both field operations and strategic planning. Defence analysts believe his combination of operational leadership, technical expertise and institutional experience makes him well suited for his new responsibilities. The National Strategic Command is expected to play a key role in coordinating Pakistan’s strategic capabilities, strengthening national security planning and overseeing matters related to strategic deterrence.

    PTI welcomes SC order for Imran Khan’s hospital …

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s order directing the transfer of party founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment. The party described the decision as an important step toward protecting Imran’s health and ensuring his constitutional and legal rights. PTI also welcomed the court’s direction allowing him to meet his family once a week. According to the court’s order, Imran will be shifted to the hospital for treatment for the next few days. A medical board will examine him and assess his condition. The board will include specialists in eye care, general medicine and cardiology. PTI said the involvement of Imran’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, would help ensure a comprehensive review of his medical history and current condition. The party said concerns over Imran’s health had increased in recent weeks. It maintained that he should receive treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors and have access to his personal physicians. PTI also appealed to its workers and supporters not to gather outside Shifa International Hospital after Imran’s transfer. The party urged them to maintain a peaceful environment and cooperate with authorities so the court’s directions could be implemented without disruption. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also welcomed the Supreme Court decision. He said the order for Imran’s hospital transfer and weekly family meetings should be implemented without delay. Afridi said PTI had repeatedly demanded medical treatment and examinations under the supervision of Imran’s personal doctors. He argued that the decision should have been taken earlier but said the party would respect the court’s directions. Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser described the ruling as an important development for Imran’s fundamental, constitutional and legal rights. He called for the decision to be implemented fully and without delay. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said obtaining reliable information about Imran’s health and ensuring his recovery remained the party’s primary concern. He also reminded supporters of the commitment given to the Supreme Court that workers would not gather outside the hospital. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan similarly urged the government to implement the order. Speaking outside Parliament, he said Imran had spent a prolonged period in detention and should now receive the medical care ordered by the court. Former federal minister Asad Umar also welcomed the ruling while questioning why similar action had not been taken earlier. He referred to previous concerns over Imran’s eyesight and said the decision was better late than never. Imran’s international affairs adviser, Zulfikar Bukhari, also welcomed the development, saying that when courts perform their constitutional role, the country benefits. He expressed hope that there would be no unnecessary obstacles to implementation. Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan chief and opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai also backed the ruling. He said prisoners, regardless of the charges against them, retain basic rights to medical treatment, family contact and legal representation. The Supreme Court’s decision followed reports concerning Imran’s health and recommendations for increased contact with his immediate family. A medical board and the Adiala Jail superintendent had earlier submitted reports to the court regarding his condition and access to family members and doctors. A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed heard matters relating to Imran’s access to his sisters, personal physicians and medical records. The court directed that Dr Faisal Sultan be allowed to examine Imran and ordered the formation of the new medical board. Dr Uzma Khan will also be associated with the board. The court further directed Imran’s family to bear the cost of his treatment at the hospital. It also ordered that his family and lawyers refrain from sharing his medical reports with the media. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan directed that Imran’s medical report be kept confidential.

The tournament aims to encourage children and teenagers to take part in sports from an early age.     US President Donald Trump has signed a executive proclamation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, introducing a 15 per cent tariff and minimum import price floors on products made from polysilicon. The critical raw material forms the foundational supply chain for both semiconductor chips and solar panels, a sector currently dominated by Chinese manufacturing. The executive action establishes clear import price thresholds across key processing stages. Under the new policy, raw polysilicon is set at a minimum price floor of $21 per kilogram, while polysilicon ingots and wafers are capped at a floor of $100 per kilogram. Solar cells face a minimum price of $0.22 per watt, and finished solar modules or panels carry a minimum threshold of $0.38 per watt. The order also directs the Commerce Department to establish targeted incentive programs for domestic companies investing in polysilicon production facilities. While semiconductor manufacturing accounts for roughly 2.4 per cent of global polysilicon demand, the material’s economic viability depends directly on the volume scale maintained by solar manufacturing. US solar manufacturers and polysilicon producers, including Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor, Wacker Chemie, First Solar, and Qcells, welcomed the strategic protections as essential for safeguarding domestic supply chains necessary for advanced computing and renewable energy. The new trade protections take effect on 4 December 2026, granting buyers a four-month window to adjust existing supply contracts before the higher price thresholds apply.
