800 young swimmers compete in CM Punjab Championsh…

The two-day CM Punjab Swimming Academies Championship has started at the Punjab International Swimming Complex. The event has attracted around 800 young swimmers from different swimming academies across Punjab.

Boys and girls are taking part in the championship in various age groups. The competition includes participants from Under-6 to Under-19 categories. Young swimmers are displaying their talent and determination in front of coaches, officials and spectators.

The championship features five competitive events. These include the 25-metre kickboard race, 25-metre floater race, 25-metre backstroke, 25-metre breaststroke and 25-metre freestyle. Every event is designed according to the age and skill level of the participants, allowing young athletes to compete fairly.

The tournament aims to encourage children and teenagers to take part in sports from an early age. It also seeks to strengthen the culture of competitive swimming in Punjab and provide a platform for young talent to grow. Coaches believe such events help swimmers improve their technique, confidence and fitness while gaining valuable experience in a competitive environment.

Officials said the large turnout reflects the growing popularity of swimming among young athletes in the province. The championship also gives coaches an opportunity to assess promising swimmers who may represent Punjab in future national competitions.

Parents and supporters attended the opening day to cheer for the participants. The atmosphere remained lively as swimmers competed with enthusiasm in different races throughout the day.

    Two policemen injured in Peshawar IED attack

    PESHAWAR: Two police personnel sustained minor injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police vehicle in Peshawar on Sunday, officials said. The blast occurred near Pir Zakorhi Bridge, close to the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway toll plaza, where a police van was travelling on routine duty. The explosion damaged the vehicle and left the driver and a police constable with minor injuries. Rescue teams and law enforcement officials quickly reached the site and shifted the injured officers to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities said both policemen were in stable condition and suffered only minor wounds. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) launched a search operation in the surrounding area after the explosion. Initial findings suggested that the explosive device had been planted along the roadside in a green belt and was detonated as the police vehicle passed by. Security personnel thoroughly scanned the area to ensure no additional explosive devices were present. Police cordoned off the scene and began collecting evidence to determine those responsible for the attack. An investigation has been launched, while officials are examining the nature of the explosive and the method used in the incident. The latest attack comes amid a surge in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In recent days, several security personnel have lost their lives in separate terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations in different parts of the province.

    Lahore – The Punjab Chief Minister’s Honorarium Program for Imam Masjid Sahibaan is continuing successfully under the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab. According to the spokesperson for the Home Department Punjab, the provincial government has allocated Rs 21 billion for the program, while more than Rs 9 billion has already been disbursed to Imams under the scheme since January 2026. It is pertinent to mention that under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Honorarium Program, more than 69,000 registered Imams across the province are receiving a monthly honorarium of Rs 25,000. The spokesperson stated that the monthly honorarium is being disbursed without interruption to registered Imams throughout Punjab through dedicated ATM cards. The payment mechanism has been designed to ensure dignity, convenience, transparency and efficiency in accordance with modern standards. The Government of Punjab has completed all necessary documentation for the honorarium program for the fiscal year 2026–27, and the required payment has been transferred to the Bank of Punjab. The spokesperson further stated that respected Imams are playing an exemplary role in promoting religious harmony, maintaining peace and fostering social welfare across the province. Their services and contributions are helping strengthen social cohesion and reinforce the values of unity and harmony in the society.

    Pak boxing team ready for Commonwealth Games
