PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is exploring a plan to extend its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network onto the M-1 Motorway, with the proposed service aimed at improving public transport links between Peshawar and several major cities.

Officials from the provincial Transport Department said the proposed BRT service could connect passengers with Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda, potentially providing a faster and more convenient travel option for thousands of daily commuters.

Under the initial proposal, buses would pick up and drop off passengers at designated toll plazas along the motorway. The exact locations and number of stops, however, have yet to be determined.

Officials said a detailed feasibility study would establish where stations should be developed and assess the operational requirements of the proposed service.

If approved and implemented, the initiative could strengthen regional connectivity and provide commuters with an expanded public transport option across key areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    KBO cancels games amid heatwave warning

The two affected matches are: • Samsung Lions vs Lotte Giants at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan. • KIA Tigers vs NC Dinos at Changwon NC Park in Changwon, South Gyeongsang. Confirming the decision, the KBO said: “Severe heatwave warnings have been in effect for the Changwon and Busan areas since yesterday.” The league further explained the reason behind the postponements, stating: “The decision was made with the safety and health of spectators and players as the top priority.” It also confirmed that both games will be rescheduled at a later date. Under KBO regulations, a heatwave warning may be declared when daily maximum temperatures of at least 35°C are forecast to continue for two consecutive days or longer. Once such conditions exist, the league is permitted to postpone games or introduce other safety measures to minimise the impact of extreme weather. Apart from outright cancellations, the KBO also has the option of delaying outdoor matches by up to one hour. Such decisions are made after consultations between the league’s game operations officials and each club’s game manager. The rule applies to all outdoor stadiums across the league. The only exception is Gocheok Sky Dome in western Seoul. Because it is a fully roofed stadium, games scheduled there can continue without being affected by extreme heat or other weather conditions. The Korea Baseball Organisation has increasingly focused on player and fan welfare in recent years, especially during periods of severe summer weather. South Korea has experienced unusually high temperatures this season, prompting authorities to issue multiple heat-related warnings and advise residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activities whenever possible. Founded in 1982, the KBO League is South Korea’s premier professional baseball competition and consists of 10 teams owned by major corporate groups. It remains the country’s most popular spectator sport, featuring a 144-game regular season that attracts millions of fans every year. Among its most successful clubs are the KIA Tigers, who have captured 12 championships, the highest total in league history. Mirpur Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz confirmed that a man was killed and two others, including the deceased’s father, were injured . The PML-N, however, claimed that Younus had been involved in its election campaign . PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed grief over the death, stating that Younus had been “martyred in Mirpur’s Nakyal” in “firing by” the PML-N candidate . “Where are the relevant authorities? What is the Election Commission doing?” he demanded . He noted that a video had emerged two days ago of Naeem and his companions “firing in public,” and argued that the loss of life could have been prevented if authorities had acted . Younus had been running an election campaign with party candidate Javed Budhanvi, the current food minister . Bilawal had alleged last week that a criminal case registered against Budhanvi was politically motivated . That case was registered after a PML-N activist campaigning for Naeem was killed and two others were injured in a firing incident in Kotli on July 10 . Despite the violence, AJK Inspector General of Police retired Captain Liaqat Ali Malik said the polling process was “largely peaceful,” describing the scuffles as “part of political activity” and noting that “temperatures are usually high” at polling stations . He affirmed that legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt polling, regardless of political affiliation . The PPP and PML-N, allies at the Centre, have been engaged in a bitter war of words in the lead-up to the polls, with observers viewing the AJK race as a direct contest between Bilawal and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif .
