The landmark initiative stems from the benevolence of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of the CRA. To commemorate her birthday on July 4, Her Royal Highness graciously donated 690,000 tablets of the medication under the Royal Cancer Medication Project. The CRA announced that its pharmaceutical manufacturing facility successfully transferred the first batch to the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) logistics center, which serves as the primary distribution hub for the NHSO. The entire warehousing and logistics process is strictly governed by Good Distribution Practice protocols to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficacy before reaching patients.

Imcranib 100 holds the distinction of being the first targeted cancer drug formulated and manufactured entirely within Thailand. As a targeted therapeutic agent, the medication functions by inhibiting tyrosine kinase enzymes, effectively disrupting the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells. Compared to conventional chemotherapy, the treatment offers highly efficient disease control with significantly fewer side effects. It is indicated for the treatment of several severe malignancies, including Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, Philadelphia chromosome-positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours, and the rare skin cancer Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans.

The production of this groundbreaking medication takes place at the CRA’s pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, established within the grounds of the Phimanmas Palace in 2020. Driven by the vision of the CRA President to view public health as the cornerstone of national development, the plant was conceived to bridge the gap between advanced research and commercial-scale industrial production. The facility is the nation’s first oncology pharmaceutical plant to achieve international PIC/S GMDP certification for both manufacturing and distribution. Following its formal registration by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration in May 2025 and its subsequent listing in the Thai Innovation Accounts in March 2026, the drug is now ready for widespread clinical use.

The rollout of this initial batch represents a significant stride in upgrading the Thai public healthcare system. By leveraging domestic manufacturing capabilities, the initiative not only strengthens national pharmaceutical security and curbs reliance on costly imported medicines but also mirrors the royal determination to dismantle financial barriers and extend equal opportunities for state-of-the-art medical care to all citizens.

    Ishaq Dar to visit UK from August 24-28

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to the United Kingdom on an official visit from August 24 to 28, where he is scheduled to hold talks with senior British officials and meet members of the Pakistani community. The MT Honour 25 oil tanker was hijacked near Somalia’s Puntland region on April 21. The vessel was carrying 17 crew members, including 10 Pakistani nationals. The prolonged captivity has raised concerns among the families of the crew, who have called for urgent efforts to secure their safe release. The Foreign Office has reaffirmed that the government remains committed to bringing the Pakistani nationals home safely.     PHA marks Independence Day across Punjab

    LAHORE: District agencies of the Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) have launched a range of Independence Day activities across Punjab, including fireworks, green-and-white illuminations, cultural programmes and plantation drives. Lahore, Murree, Jhelum and Faisalabad welcomed August 14 with fireworks late Wednesday night. Authorities also decorated major roads, parks and public spaces with lights and national flags in the colours of the Pakistani flag. In Lahore, the agency organised midnight fireworks at five locations, including Greater Iqbal Park, Liberty Roundabout and Gulshan Iqbal Park. It also installed decorative crescents, stars and traditional lamps at several sites and arranged a musical night. Faisalabad hosted an entertainment programme at Bagh-i-Jinnah, featuring fireworks, family activities, magic shows and musical performances. The agency also decorated several parts of the city with illuminated structures. Murree held a fireworks display and planned a cake-cutting ceremony after the flag-hoisting. Officials decorated Kuldana Road, Bagh-i-Shaheedan, View Forth Road, Jhika Gali, Kashmir Point and Pindi Point. In Jhelum, fireworks took place at Akram Shaheed Park, which also received decorative lighting. Officials installed flags along the green belt on Old GT Road and placed streamers in several parks. Rawalpindi will combine Independence Day celebrations with a plantation initiative at Allama Iqbal Park, where officials will distribute plants after the flag-hoisting ceremony. The agency has also decorated several major roads with lights. Other districts, including Khushab, Nankana Sahib, Multan, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan and Okara, have arranged similar activities. Multan will distribute saplings at several parks, while Okara plans to plant 1,000 saplings and decorate nine major parks. Dera Ghazi Khan has organised a musical night and will hold a rally in coordination with the deputy commissioner’s office.     199 polling stations set for LA-17 election

    BAGH: A total of 199 polling stations have been established for the election in LA-17 Bagh-4 Haveli, with 10 security personnel to be deployed at each polling station. According to a notification issued by the Returning Officer’s office, 117,514 registered voters will be eligible to cast their ballots in the constituency. Polling will take place across 12 union councils and a town committee. Election officials have also completed arrangements for transporting election materials to remote areas, including Bheedi, Halla and Kairni. Haveli has been divided into 16 sectors to facilitate the distribution of election materials and manage polling arrangements. Of the 199 polling stations, 50 have been classified as sensitive and 25 as highly sensitive. Ten security personnel will be deployed at every polling station to maintain security during polling. Preparations have also been completed for the third phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, with polling scheduled in four constituencies across Bagh and Haveli districts of the Poonch Division. The transportation of election materials to polling stations is currently underway. Elections in five constituencies of Poonch and two constituencies of Sudhanoti have been postponed. The upcoming electoral contest also features three former prime ministers among the candidates. Former AJK prime ministers Sardar Attique Khan and Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, who lead the Muslim Conference and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party respectively, are contesting the elections. AJK Prime Minister Faisal Rathore is also taking part in the electoral contest. Authorities have stepped up security and logistical preparations ahead of polling to ensure a peaceful voting process across the constituency.
