Cha-am bypass crash kills two and seriously injures one
Two people were killed and one person was seriously injured after a car crashed into a metal roadside barrier on the Cha-am bypass in Phetchaburi province.
The crash happened on 29 May on the Cha-am–Pranburi bypass road, before the U-turn near the Chang Thaeng Krachat intersection in Sam Phraya subdistrict.
Police from Cha-am Police Station were informed that a car had struck a roadside barrier and that people were trapped inside the vehicle. Sawang Sanphet rescue workers and a Cha-am Hospital ambulance were sent to the scene.
The crash occurred at kilometre marker 18+100 on the Bangkok-bound side of the road.
At the scene, officers found a white Toyota sedan with Bangkok licence plates. The front of the vehicle was badly damaged after it crashed into the roadside barrier. The metal barrier had gone through the car from the front windscreen to the rear window.
Inside the vehicle, officers found two people dead, a man and a woman. An elderly woman was also found seriously injured and trapped inside.
Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove her from the wreckage before she was taken to Cha-am Hospital for urgent treatment.
During an inspection of the car, officers found a shirt bearing the name of Dr Paithaya Suebsing. Police believe he was driving the vehicle and was among those who died at the scene.
The woman who died in the front passenger seat is believed to have been travelling with him.
Initial investigations suggest the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel or lost control before the car hit the roadside barrier.
Police said they will examine the evidence and carry out further inquiries to determine the exact cause of the crash.
