Durian lovers in Hua Hin: Pa La-U Fruit Festival is now open
The Pa La-U Fruit Festival 2026 has opened in Hua Hin, with locally grown GI durians on sale for 200 baht per kilogram as organisers look to attract visitors and support farmers in Huai Sat Yai.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Sitthichai Sawatsan presided over the opening ceremony at 10.30am on 1 July at the activity area of Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.
He was joined by Sarawut Lim-arunrak, President of Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Administrative Organisation, Hua Hin District Chief Supachai Krutdam, Dr Bussakorn Sawatsan, President of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Red Cross Chapter, Huai Sat Yai SAO Chief Executive Watchara Kamphon, government officials, local leaders, farmers and members of the public.
This year’s festival runs from 1 to 5 July and marks the 13th consecutive year of the event. It is held to promote agricultural produce and local products from Huai Sat Yai, a subdistrict known for Pa La-U durians and other seasonal fruit.
Local produce and low-cost goods
Visitors to the Pa La-U Fruit Festival can buy durians and other produce from local farms, including rambutan, mangosteen, longkong and Karen bananas.
The event also includes Blue Flag products, which are sold at reduced prices as part of efforts to help ease household expenses.
Pa La-U durian is one of Prachuap Khiri Khan’s best-known agricultural products and is an important source of income for farmers in the area. The fruit is normally available from June to August each year, with the annual festival timed to coincide with the main harvest season.
Farming community in Huai Sat Yai
Huai Sat Yai is part of the Huai Sat Yai Cooperative Village Project, established under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, who granted farmland to local farmers.
Many residents in the area continue to work in dairy farming and agriculture, with durian cultivation playing a major role in the local economy.
The festival is expected to bring more visitors to the area during the harvest season and help generate income for farmers, vendors and the wider community.
