Cha-am fresh market price checks stepped up by officials
Commerce officials have stepped up Cha-am fresh market price checks as part of efforts to ensure vendors clearly display prices and to prevent consumers from being overcharged.
The Phetchaburi Provincial Commerce Office, working with Cha-am City Municipality, recently inspected the Cha-am municipal fresh market, instructing more than 137 vendors to install clear and visible price signs. Authorities warned that businesses failing to comply could face fines of up to 10,000 baht.
Provincial commerce officer Jintana Pinsupha said volatility in global energy markets, linked to instability in the Middle East, could lead to fluctuations in the cost of goods. Officials were therefore tasked with monitoring pricing practices at the market, a key retail hub serving both residents and visitors.
The inspection aimed to reinforce compliance with regulations requiring businesses to display prices for goods and services in a clear and accessible way. Officials said the move was intended to strengthen consumer confidence while ensuring fair trading practices.
Enforcement of price display rules at Cha-am fresh market
Authorities stressed that all operators, including retail shops, food outlets and online sellers, must provide complete and easy-to-read price information to help customers make informed purchasing decisions. Under the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542, failure to display prices may result in a fine of up to 10,000 baht.
Officials said displaying prices is not only a legal requirement but also an important measure to promote transparency and fairness in the marketplace. Monthly inspections are planned to ensure ongoing compliance, with stricter monitoring during periods of price uncertainty.
Consumers who encounter shops that do not display prices or that appear to charge unfair rates can report concerns via the Department of Internal Trade hotline at 1569 or by contacting the Phetchaburi Provincial Commerce Office directly.
