A Hua Hin station video showing a Japanese traveller falling backwards after the backrest of a chair broke has gone viral on social media, attracting millions of views.
The clip was posted by Japanese travel creator jun_suga_sekidou, who shared the moment from a visit to Hua Hin Railway Station under the title: “Thailand almost stopped my heart.”
In the video, the man is seen sitting on a chair at the station while waiting with a friend. As he leans back, the backrest gives way, causing him to fall backwards onto the floor with a loud crash.
He was not injured in the incident.
His friend is seen smiling and joking after the fall, saying: “Don’t destroy things.” The creator later added in a comment that he had “properly apologised to the station master.”
The clip quickly gained attention online, with many users reacting with humour while also noting that he was fortunate to escape without injury.
As of Friday 26 June, the video had been viewed more than 7 million times and received more than half a million likes.
Although the incident was treated light-heartedly by the creator and many viewers, it has also raised questions about safety at public facilities.
A broken chair backrest could pose a greater risk if the same incident involved a small child, an elderly person, or a pregnant woman. The case may prompt relevant agencies to check seating and other public-use facilities at the station to help prevent similar incidents.
