Prachuap vaping campaign warns young people
Prachuap Khiri Khan has launched a vaping campaign to improve awareness among young people about the dangers of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and nicotine addiction.
Deputy Governor Prateep Boriboonrat opened the training programme at Hadthong Hotel in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan on Monday, 20 July.
The project, organised by the National Alliance for a Tobacco-Free Thai Society, will train education and public health personnel to explain the health risks of tobacco and new types of e-cigarettes, as well as the laws governing the products.
Jantira Komol, deputy chief of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Office, joined government officials and participants at the opening ceremony.
The programme is divided into two sessions. The first, held from 20–21 July, is attended by 116 education personnel. A second session for 75 public health workers will take place from 22–23 July.
Prachuap vaping campaign trains local educators
Training is being provided by specialists from the Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 5 in Ratchaburi.
Organisers said e-cigarette use among Thai students aged 13–15 had risen significantly, with online advertising and attractively designed products helping to increase their appeal among children and first-time users.
They warned that nicotine is highly addictive and may have long-term effects on young people’s brain development, mental health and physical wellbeing.
Participants will learn how to use digital media to communicate the dangers of cigarettes and vaping. The project also aims to create teams at district and subdistrict level to deliver information to students in schools and young people in local communities.
