Chiang Rai Launches New Health Initiative to Combat Chronic Kidney Disease

CHIANG RAI – On July 10, 2026, Chiang Rai took a major step toward better community health. The city officially launched the “Reduce Kidney Failure Risk, Extend Quality of Life” project. Acting Sub-Lieutenant Bunrit Ayuyuen, the Deputy Municipal Clerk, opened the event at the Mueang Chiang Rai District Public Health Office.

The new program specifically targets at-risk residents and members of local public health networks. It aims to build a solid understanding of chronic kidney disease prevention across the community. Furthermore, health officials want to actively promote correct, everyday health care habits among all locals.

Key Takeaways:

  • Chiang Rai officially launched a focused health project to prevent chronic kidney disease in the community.
  • Medical experts provided free workshops on kidney health, safe medications, dialysis, and proper daily nutrition.
  • The local initiative directly supports the mayor’s long-term goal of making Chiang Rai a true “Wellness City.”

A professional medical team from Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital led the educational health sessions. Dr. Parichat Khamlue opened the floor by discussing general kidney disease facts and related health complications. Next, Pharmacist Theeraporn Ekkabut warned attendees about how certain medicines and herbal products harm kidney function.

The community learning continued with practical care strategies for those already affected by illness. Registered Nurse Thanyalak Tharawijitkul shared important details about managing chronic kidney failure through proper dialysis. Additionally, Nutritionist Phimphan Wisutthikan explained how a balanced diet plays a huge role in supporting kidney health.

Interactive Health Booths and Daily Habits

Beyond just listening to medical lectures, attendees eagerly participated in hands-on health promotion booths. These interactive learning stations gave people highly practical health tips for their busy daily routines. Ultimately, the local goal is to help everyone apply these healthy habits in real life with complete confidence.

This entire health project strongly reflects the modern vision of Chiang Rai Mayor Wanchai Jongsuthanamanee. He is currently working very hard to transform the area into a leading Wellness City. Leaders truly believe that strong community health must start right at the basic family level.

When individual families stay healthy, the whole city naturally grows much stronger over time. Therefore, empowering local people with basic medical knowledge remains a vital step moving forward. This highly sustainable approach will surely improve the overall quality of life across all of Chiang Rai.

Congo Ebola outbreak death toll crosses 2,000

KINSHASA: The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has intensified dramatically, with the death toll reaching 2,061 as authorities reported 4,449 confirmed cases, highlighting the growing challenge facing health workers and communities. The latest figures, reported by Congolese authorities on Tuesday, show how quickly the outbreak has expanded since it was officially declared on May 15. The outbreak is being driven by the Bundibugyo virus, a species of Ebola for which there is currently no licensed vaccine or specific treatment. Health authorities have been relying heavily on early diagnosis, supportive care, surveillance and infection-control measures. The outbreak began in Ituri province, with cases subsequently reported in other parts of the country. The World Health Organisation has warned that insecurity, population movement and limited healthcare infrastructure are complicating efforts to contain transmission. The current epidemic is Congo’s 17th Ebola outbreak, according to health authorities. Its rapid growth has raised concerns among international health agencies, particularly as affected communities face humanitarian and security challenges. Medical teams are working under difficult conditions, wearing protective equipment while treating patients and tracing contacts. WHO has said that strengthening surveillance, contact tracing, clinical care and community engagement remains central to the response. Recent research has also suggested that the outbreak may involve a previously unrecorded variant of the Bundibugyo strain and could have resulted from a new animal-to-human transmission event, underscoring the importance of monitoring potential spillover from wildlife. With thousands of confirmed infections and deaths already recorded, authorities face an urgent race to slow transmission and prevent the outbreak from spreading further across the region.

South Indian actress Shakeela undergoes neck surgery after excessive phone use

South Indian actress Shakeela has revealed that her excessive use of mobile phones left her with a serious neck problem that eventually required surgery costing around Rs300,000 Indian rupees. The 53-year-old actress shared her experience in a video posted on her YouTube channel and urged people, especially parents, to limit unnecessary mobile phone use. Shakeela, who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films, said her habit of playing games and watching videos on her phone for several hours caused significant damage to her neck. She explained that she would often lie on her side in bed for long periods while using her phone. “I used to play games on my phone continuously for four hours while lying on my side in bed,” Shakeela said. She added that she would only get up occasionally to have tea or coffee before returning to her phone. After playing games, she would spend hours watching reels on YouTube and Instagram. According to the actress, maintaining an incorrect posture while using her phone, combined with prolonged screen time, affected important blood vessels in her neck and eventually led to serious health complications. She underwent surgery in Chennai and said that a titanium screw was also used during the procedure. After returning home, doctors advised Shakeela to wear a neck collar until she recovered. She said that following the surgery, she has needed assistance even with basic activities such as getting out of bed and eating. Shakeela stressed that mobile phones are useful devices when used responsibly, but excessive use can have serious consequences. She advised people not to spend unnecessary hours watching videos or playing games, even if the content is entertaining. She also issued a warning to parents, urging them to avoid giving mobile phones to children unnecessarily. According to her, children should use phones only for essential activities and educational or useful content rather than spending long periods watching short videos and playing games. The actress said that people could end up paying a heavy financial and physical price for excessive phone use, adding that her own experience had cost her around Rs300,000 and caused considerable pain and difficulty. Shakeela Begum was born in Chennai. Her mother, Chand Bee, was from Andhra Pradesh, while her father, Chand Basha, was from Tamil Nadu. She began her acting career with a Tamil film in 1995. However, she gained widespread recognition after appearing in the Malayalam film Kinnarathumbikal, released in 2000. Over the years, Shakeela became a well-known name in South Indian cinema, particularly for her work in Malayalam films. Her latest health experience has now prompted her to use her public platform to raise awareness about responsible mobile phone use and the potential health risks associated with prolonged screen time and poor posture.
