Hua Hin International School music recital showcases IB talent

A Symphony of Talent: Year 13 IB Music Students Shine in Stunning Recital at Hua Hin International School

On Thursday 5th March, the Hua Hin International School community was treated to an extraordinary evening of artistry as their Year 13 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Music students took to the stage for their final recital.

The IB Diploma is a rigorous two-year pre-university program where students must excel across six subject groups. The Higher Level (HL) Music course is particularly demanding – students are to demonstrate their musical skill, knowledge and understanding as researchers, creators, and performers. Beyond standard performance and composition, HL students must complete a “Contemporary Music Maker” project, which simulates real-world musical leadership through collaborative multimedia or live-project creation.

The evening began on a high note, with performers and guests mingling in a lovely atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed delicious refreshments provided by the Anantara, snapping photos and sharing in the excitement before the music commenced. The audience was then treated to a wide variety of performances that showcased the students’ versatility and technical prowess. There were stirring renditions of Musical Theatre songs alongside a contemporary piece performed entirely with voice and a loop pedal, demonstrating modern innovation. There really was everything and it was wonderful to sample the delicate strings of the Baroque Guitar to the rich, complex layers of Persian Fusion played on the electone (an electric organ).

A further highlight of the evening was the presentation of the students’ HL (higher level) projects. These tasks require students to step into professional roles by collaborating with others to create music for a ‘real world’ setting. The students shared their progress in composing original scores for short films and artworks. These projects are the result of months of intense discussion, feedback loops, and a deep understanding of the subtle nuances required to marry sound with visual media.

The night was a resounding success and a fitting tribute to the dedication of the students. A huge well done to Ohm, Milana, and Savanna for a truly stunning showcase of their skills and hard work.
