Hua Hin waste plastic project turns bottle caps into useful products
Hua Hin City Municipality has received a plastic hot press machine and a small plastic bottle cap grinder as part of a project aimed at improving waste management and creating added value from discarded plastic.
The equipment was handed over on 16 May at the Circular Economy Learning Centre.
The handover was attended by Mr Nopporn Wuttikul, Mayor of Hua Hin City Municipality, Ms Pailin Kongphan, Deputy Mayor, municipal councillors Mr Udom Duangkhae and Mr Prasert Phuangsri, and officials from the city’s Public Health and Environment Division.
Also attending were Mr Thanudet Phunnoi, acting head of the Public Health Administration Division, Mr Phumirin Sukprasert, acting head of the Environmental Quality Control and Management Division, Ms Siraporn Hannarong, president of the Hua Hin City Municipality Village Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Volunteer Association, and members of the environmental volunteer network.
The equipment was provided with support from the Environmentally Friendly Materials Research Unit.
Assistant Professor Dr Prachum Khamput, a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and head of the project, presented the equipment to the municipality.
Mr Pramote Ngamleua, a member of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Administrative Organisation Council, also attended the event.
Waste plastic project aims to create local value
The project follows support given to Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi by the National Research Council of Thailand under a 2026 programme to promote research, innovation, knowledge management and technology transfer.
The project focuses on waste management measures in coastal areas using appropriate technology to help increase income for communities along the Gulf of Thailand. It also supports the move towards a low-carbon economy and society, with local administrative organisations playing a role.
For Hua Hin, the support is intended to help improve waste management in the municipality and encourage participation from residents, volunteers and related agencies.
The new equipment will allow waste plastic and used plastic bottle caps to be processed into items such as coasters, key rings, beads and other small products.
Municipal officials said the initiative could help reduce plastic waste while also creating opportunities for communities to develop products with added value.
