LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered authorities at Allama Iqbal International Airport to speed up the immigration process after passengers complained about delays during his visit to the facility.

Naqvi inspected immigration counters and spoke with officials and passengers to assess how long travellers were taking to clear immigration. Several passengers told him that the process was taking around 30 minutes and urged authorities to improve arrangements.

Taking immediate notice of the complaints, the minister directed airport officials to keep all immigration counters operational so that passenger queues could be cleared more quickly. He assured travellers that the additional counters would help reduce waiting times and make the process more convenient.

During the visit, Naqvi also acted on a passenger’s complaint that an agent had demanded money. He referred the matter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director and ordered action against the agent.

The interior minister further directed authorities not to allow passengers to travel on incomplete documents. At the same time, he stressed that travellers carrying complete and valid documents should not be unnecessarily stopped from boarding their flights.

Naqvi said modern technology had made immigration procedures more efficient but warned that strict action would continue against people attempting to travel using fake or fraudulent documents.

The minister’s visit comes as authorities face growing pressure to improve passenger facilitation and reduce waiting times at Pakistan’s major international airports.

Along with the fine, Warner was ordered to hold an “interlock” licence for one year. The licence condition requires him to use a breathalyser device installed in a vehicle. The system prevents the vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected on the driver’s breath. Warner’s lawyer, Awais Ahmad, acknowledged that his client’s decision to drive after drinking was poor judgment. According to Australia’s ABC, the lawyer described it as “impaired, impulsive and frankly foolish decision-making”. Ahmad told the court that Warner had accepted responsibility for his actions and had completed a traffic offender programme. Police reportedly said Warner had consumed three glasses of wine before driving towards his family home.     NEW YORK: A coalition of 25 US states has filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump, seeking to block a new round of tariffs imposed on imports from dozens of countries. The legal challenge was submitted to the US Court of International Trade in New York, where the states asked the court to suspend the tariffs, declare them unlawful and order the federal government to refund businesses that have already paid the import duties. The coalition argued that the administration exceeded its legal authority by introducing sweeping tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. According to the lawsuit, the investigations cited by the administration as justification for the tariffs were used as a pretext to impose broad trade restrictions. The disputed tariffs, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, were introduced last month and apply to imports from 60 trading partners, covering a significant share of goods entering the United States. The Trump administration has defended the measures, saying they are intended to address concerns related to forced labour in international supply chains and to protect American trade interests. The White House maintains that the tariffs were imposed within the government’s legal authority and remain an important tool for securing fair trade practices. A White House spokesperson said the administration is using powers granted under US trade law to respond to what it considers unfair policies and practices affecting American commerce. His bravery earned him the distinction of becoming Pakistan’s first Nishan-e-Haider recipient. ISPR said Captain Sarwar led his troops with exceptional courage, strong military strategy and an unwavering sense of duty. The people of Pakistan and the armed forces continue to honour his enduring legacy, which inspires present and future generations to uphold the values of duty, honour and patriotism. President Zardari said Captain Sarwar sacrificed his life for the cause of Kashmir’s freedom, describing his sacrifice as a timeless example of courage, duty and patriotism. He added that the nation’s martyrs remain a precious national asset and that Captain Sarwar’s name will always be remembered. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the national hero, saying the entire nation honours his sacrifice for the defence of Pakistan. He said Captain Sarwar fought the enemy with remarkable courage and became the first Pakistani to receive the Nishan-e-Haider for his ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country.

    10 terrorists eliminated in Balochistan operation

    Security forces have eliminated 10 terrorists during intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, targeting militant networks linked to Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out over 48 hours in Surab and Mastung districts. Security forces conducted targeted actions after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants in the areas. The ISPR said troops successfully attacked terrorist hideouts and neutralized several militants. Seven terrorists were killed in Surab, while three others were eliminated during an operation in Mastung. During the operations, security forces also arrested two female suicide attackers associated with Fitna al-Hindustan along with a facilitator. Officials said the arrests helped prevent possible terrorist activities in the region. Security forces recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the militants. The recovered material was taken into custody for further investigation. After the successful operations, clearance activities were launched in the affected areas to search for any remaining members of the terrorist networks. Security personnel are continuing efforts to ensure that no militant elements remain active in the region. The ISPR said the fight against terrorism will continue without discrimination under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative. It added that security forces remain determined to eliminate terrorist threats and protect the lives and property of citizens. Officials said such intelligence-based operations will continue across the country to dismantle militant networks and restore lasting peace and stability.
