Lahore: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid a visit to the 24/7 NADRA Mega Center at Shimla Pahari, where he inspected the services and facilities available to the public. During the visit, he expressed satisfaction with the center’s performance and praised the quality of services being provided to citizens.

The minister interacted directly with visitors applying for identity cards and other official documents, listening to their concerns and seeking feedback on the overall service experience. He also toured different service counters, met NADRA staff, and reviewed operational arrangements to ensure efficient public service delivery.

Responding promptly to public complaints, Mohsin Naqvi directed officials to immediately resolve the issues faced by two citizens. He also took notice of complaints regarding excessive parking charges outside the center and called for appropriate action to address the matter.

Highlighting the importance of improving public services, the interior minister announced that the system for accessing the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) track record would be streamlined to make the process more efficient and user-friendly.

Recalling his previous visit to the Shimla Pahari NADRA Center, Naqvi said he was encouraged by the positive feedback received from citizens. He emphasized that public trust and satisfaction remain the true measure of an institution’s success and commended NADRA Chairman and the entire team for their dedication and performance in serving the people.

According to the police chief, the police surgeon neither personally examined the body nor conducted the medical examination, and any reservations about the findings should have been communicated to investigators without delay. Azad Khan said police based their early investigation on the preliminary medico-legal report provided by the MLO. He added that confirmation of gunpowder residue on the deceased’s hands was also essential to the investigation. The police chief said the Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the scene and handed all relevant material over to the medical team. He also questioned why the medical team did not visit the crime scene, noting that in many countries medical experts inspect the scene themselves, particularly in high-profile cases. He said that if Mir Raza’s family requests it, another medical examination can be conducted. Meanwhile, investigators are looking into the disappearance of the weapon believed to be linked to the case. Azad Khan also confirmed that police are searching for a waste collector seen in a video recorded near the scene. He said locating the missing weapon could help investigators resolve key questions surrounding Mir Raza’s death. The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and examine all possible leads.

    Iran warns Ukraine of response over alleged Caspian Sea attack

    Iranian officials have warned Ukraine that Tehran will not ignore attacks against its interests. The warning came after Iran accused Ukraine of allegedly targeting an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea. Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said any action against Iran would carry consequences. He said the United States and Israel were already aware of Iran’s position. Azizi also warned that Ukraine could soon realise that Iran does not leave hostile actions against it unanswered. He said the list of countries making what he described as wrong calculations about Iran’s response was growing. The remarks followed an alleged attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea. Iranian authorities said one crew member was killed and another was injured in the incident. Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the reported attack. It also summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to formally lodge a protest. The incident has raised concerns about the possibility of the wider Middle East conflict creating new tensions involving Ukraine and Iran. The Caspian Sea has now emerged as another area of concern amid the escalating regional disputes. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that a Russian vessel allegedly carrying weapons to Iran had been targeted in the Caspian Sea. Kyiv has previously accused Iran of supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine. Iran, however, has strongly criticised what it describes as attacks on its territory and interests.     Pakistan’s petroleum levy collection reached a record Rs1.567 trillion during the fiscal year 2025-26, exceeding both the government’s target and the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) projection, according to sources. The government also collected an additional Rs50.16 billion as Climate Support Levy during the fiscal year, adding further revenue from petroleum products. Sources said petroleum levy collections increased by Rs347.24 billion compared with the previous fiscal year. The total collection stood nearly Rs100 billion above the government’s target of Rs1.468 trillion for FY2025-26. The collection also surpassed the IMF’s estimate. The global lender had projected petroleum levy revenues of around Rs1.546 trillion for the fiscal year, meaning the actual collection exceeded the projection by approximately Rs21 billion. Petroleum levy revenues have continued to rise sharply in recent years. The government collected Rs1.220 trillion in FY2024-25, compared with Rs1.019 trillion in FY2023-24. In FY2022-23, petroleum levy collection stood at around Rs580 billion. The latest figures reflect the government’s growing reliance on petroleum-related revenues to strengthen its fiscal position and meet revenue requirements under its economic programme. At present, the government charges a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre on petrol, while high-speed diesel carries a levy of Rs77.28 per litre. In addition, the government imposes a separate Climate Support Levy of Rs5 per litre each on petrol and diesel. The record collection comes as the government continues to seek higher revenues while managing fiscal pressures and meeting commitments under its agreement with the IMF. The increased levy revenue provides additional funds for the federal budget but also adds to the overall cost burden on consumers through petroleum prices.

    Mohammad Amir questions Babar Azam’s Test captaincy return

    LAHORE: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the national Test captain, saying the star batter should have been allowed to focus entirely on his batting rather than taking on the added responsibility of leadership.     Gohar rejects reports on Imran-Noreen meeting

According to Barrister Gohar, Noreen Niazi had made it clear that she would not discuss the meeting outside. She had also decided not to speak publicly about the details of her interaction with Imran Khan. Barrister Gohar said there was no truth in reports claiming that Imran Khan had spoken against PTI leadership. He specifically clarified that the PTI founder had not made any remarks against Sohail Afridi or other members of the party leadership. He said the reports being circulated about the meeting were misleading and should not be treated as factual. Barrister Gohar maintained that the details being attributed to the meeting did not reflect what had actually been discussed. The PTI chairman also said Noreen Niazi appeared to be happy after meeting Imran Khan. However, he noted that there were certain matters discussed during the meeting that could not be shared publicly. He said some information remained private because of the nature of the meeting. Barrister Gohar therefore urged people not to rely on unverified reports or speculation regarding the interaction between Imran Khan and Noreen Niazi.
