Motorway No. 8 review discussed in Hua Hin
The Department of Highways has held a public consultation meeting in Hua Hin on the review study for Motorway No. 8, the proposed Nakhon Pathom–Pranburi route, covering the Cha-am–Pranburi section.
The meeting was held on Wednesday, 10 June, at Hua Hin Grand Hotel and Plaza and marked the first project orientation seminar for the study.
The session was chaired by Supachai Khrutdam, Hua Hin District Chief, and was attended by representatives from government agencies, state enterprises, local administrative organisations, community leaders and members of the public. Nalin Makchen, Public Relations Officer for Prachuap Khiri Khan province, also attended.
Motorway No. 8 study to review route plans

The project involves hiring consulting engineers to review the economic feasibility study, conduct surveys, prepare detailed designs and assess environmental impacts for the Cha-am–Pranburi section of Intercity Motorway No. 8.
Officials said the transport network from Bangkok and the central region to the South currently relies heavily on Highway No. 4, or Phetkasem Road, which is carrying increasing traffic volumes.
The Department of Highways has identified Motorway No. 8, from Nakhon Pathom to Pranburi, as a strategic route intended to provide another option for travel and transport to the South.
A feasibility study for the Cha-am–Chumphon route was previously carried out in 2009. However, officials said changes in economic, social and local conditions mean the project now needs to be reviewed to ensure it remains suitable for future development.
The Department of Highways, through its Bureau of Survey and Design, has appointed a group of consultants comprising Boonpanya Technology Co., Ltd., S2R Consulting Co., Ltd. and Macro Consultant Co., Ltd.
Their work will include reviewing economic feasibility, carrying out survey and design work, preparing an environmental impact assessment, or EIA, and organising public participation activities.
The study period will run for 450 days, from 4 April 2026 to 27 June 2027.
Officials said the review will examine current environmental conditions, traffic volumes and other environmental factors. The findings will be used to prepare an EIA report in line with requirements from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The public consultation process will continue throughout the study period, with information to be shared so that local residents and stakeholders can follow the project and provide feedback.
Officials said the project is expected to improve travel and transport links to the South, make intercity travel faster and safer, support economic and social development, and help ease congestion on Highway No. 4.
After the meeting, attendees were invited to ask questions, share opinions and make suggestions. The feedback will be used as part of the study and future development of the project.
