Ampatuan scion wins Maguindanao del Sur 2nd District BARMM seat

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) bet Sajid Andre Ampatuan has won the race for the Bangsamoro parliamentary seat in Maguindanao del Sur’s 2nd District.

Ampatuan received 41,253 or 63.26% of his district’s votes, according to Maguindanao del Sur’s total certificates of canvass on the Commission on Elections’ website.

He defeated Saad Sindatok, the candidate of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, the party of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Sindatok obtained only 23,958 or 36.74% of the votes.

Prior to the elections, Ampatuan served as mayor of Shariff Saydona Mustapha. He is the son of former Maguindanao governor Sajid Islam Ampatuan, who was linked to the 2009 Maguindanao massacre and several corruption scandals.

Ampatuan’s win gives BFP president and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua better odds of being elected as the next chief minister of the Bangsamoro Parliament. – Rappler.com
