‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ closing in on ‘Titanic’ at box office

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is rapidly closing in on “Titanic” at the global box office. The Marvel film now sits just tens of millions of dollars away from knocking James Cameron’s 1997 classic out of the all-time top five.

Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, “Brand New Day” continued its impressive run into its fourth weekend, adding $39 million domestically and $109 million internationally. That brings its worldwide total to approximately $2.22 billion.

That leaves the film roughly $44 million behind “Titanic,” which currently holds fifth place on the all-time global chart with around $2.264 billion. If the film maintains its current momentum, it is expected to overtake Cameron’s blockbuster within days.

The achievement would add yet another milestone to what has already been a record-breaking theatrical run. “Brand New Day” became the first film in the Spider-Man franchise to cross $2 billion worldwide, reaching that mark in just three weekends, the second-fastest film ever to do so, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame.”

Its domestic performance has been equally striking. The film has now earned more than $854.9 million in the US and Canada, putting it on track to overtake “Avengers: Endgame” as the second-highest-grossing domestic release of all time, behind only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The film’s remarkable run began with a record-setting opening weekend. It debuted to around $360 million domestically, surpassing “Avengers: Endgame” for the biggest domestic opening in history, while also posting the second-biggest global opening ever at roughly $932 million worldwide.

It has continued breaking records since, crossing $1 billion worldwide in just six days, the second-fastest film to do so, before going on to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 overall.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film marks Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker. Its cast also includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

Should it overtake “Titanic,” the film would edge into an increasingly exclusive tier of the box office charts. It currently trails “Ne Zha 2,” which sits just ahead with roughly $2.27 billion worldwide, suggesting another ranking shift could follow soon after.

More than 25 years after “Titanic” first became a box office phenomenon, another Marvel blockbuster now stands ready to challenge its place in cinema history, with the gap between them narrowing by the day.

Officials discussed several off-season and pre-season activities. The goal is to keep fans engaged during the break. A big part of the discussion focused on what made season 11 special. Officials pointed to new additions in broadcast and fan engagement. They also praised the overall quality of cricket across all 44 matches. Viewership numbers came up too. Despite that string of successes, Deol said he is actively working to branch out into different kinds of projects. He explained that he understands why actors get pulled toward roles tied to their biggest hits, but he is determined to keep experimenting further. He revealed he recently wrapped a film called “Bandar,” describing it as a distinctly different kind of project from his recent work. Deol added that even within villain roles, there’s plenty of range to explore, since antagonists can carry very different tones and shades. He said he genuinely enjoys playing those varied versions of darker characters. Deol also confirmed he is set to appear in a few upcoming web series, which he says will offer something noticeably different from his recent filmography. On the work front, Deol is next set to appear in “Teen Kauwe,” a Hindi spy thriller series co-starring Ishaan Gupta, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Pavail Gulati.     Eight bodies recovered after Broad Peak avalanche

    Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of eight mountaineers following the devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, while the search continues for two missing climbers. Another victim has been identified, but the body remains trapped in an area that rescuers have so far been unable to reach. Speaking to the media, the President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan described the incident as one of the deadliest accidents in the history of Broad Peak. He said a total of 11 climbers are believed to have been caught in the avalanche, triggering a large-scale rescue operation. On the opening day, rescuers recovered the bodies of two climbers and also found partial human remains believed to belong to another victim. According to the Alpine Club, the first two recovered victims were a Nepalese mountaineer and a female climber from Oman. Rescue operations were carried out under extremely difficult weather and terrain conditions at high altitude. The Pakistan Army assisted the mission by providing helicopters to transport rescue teams and airlift the recovered bodies from the remote mountain. The aerial support played a key role in speeding up the recovery process. The Alpine Club president said that during the latest phase of the operation, the bodies of four Nepalese climbers and one Chinese mountaineer were successfully recovered and transported from the mountain. He added that rescuers have also identified another climber’s body. However, it is located in an inaccessible area, making immediate recovery impossible because of dangerous terrain and the continued risk of avalanches. Search teams are still looking for the remaining two missing climbers. Rescue officials said every effort is being made to locate them despite severe weather, snow-covered slopes and difficult mountain conditions. The tragedy has shocked Pakistan’s mountaineering community and highlighted the dangers faced by climbers attempting to scale some of the world’s highest peaks. Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram mountain range, is one of Pakistan’s tallest mountains and attracts climbers from around the world each year.
