Fitbit Edge: All you need to know about Google’s next wearable

Fitbit Edge: In summary

  • Google’s next mainline wearable
  • Leaked as spiritual successor to the Fitbit Charge 6
  • Dedicated Google Maps and YouTube Music apps likely
  • Could have similar design to the Pixel Watch 5 but be cheaper
  • Pixel 11-style colourways expected
  • A week of battery life possible

In what might be one of the worst-kept secrets in the world of fitness trackers, given that Google itself leaked the device through promotional material for the Pixel 11 range. But signs point towards the Fitbit Edge as being the next major wearable to be released from the company.

It’s been quite the year for Google’s wearable division. Not only have we had the Pixel Watch 5, arguably the most complete Android smartwatch you can buy, but the Fitbit Air has also brought the screenless tracker concept into the mainstream.

The latter represents a much more affordable screenless tracker than the subscription-based Whoop Strap, and it has become a smash hit.

Well, it now seems as though Google is aiming for a hat-trick with the supposedly imminent release of the Fitbit Edge. If you’re curious to know more about this upcoming wearable, including when it’s set for launch and what features we expect it to bring to the table, then we’ve got all that and more below.

When is the Fitbit Edge coming out?

In summary

  • Official unveiling could be imminent
  • Might release before the end of 2026

Although we can’t say for sure as to when the Fitbit Edge will drop until we get official confirmation from Google, all signs are now pointing towards a fairly imminent release.

Leaks and rumours suggest that Fitbit Edge might be revealed as early as October or November, so stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

How much does the Fitbit Edge cost?

In summary

  • Anywhere between $149 and $199 is expected
  • Likely poised as a more affordable alternative to the Pixel Watch 5

Word on the street is that the Fitbit Edge could cost anywhere between $149 and $199.

Given that the Fitbit Charge 6 (the Edge’s spiritual predecessor) had a launch price of £139.99/$159.95, we think it’s fair to expect the Edge to be on the higher end of that estimate, particularly given the ongoing global RAM shortage (‘RAMageddon’), which is driving tech prices up across the board.

What specs and features will the Fitbit Edge have?

The Fitbit Edge leaked extensively in early October, giving us a very good idea of what to expect. While nothing you see below is official, Android Headlines’ strong track record for Google device leaks means we can be pretty confident that most of the below is accurate.

A familiar, yet all-new design

Given that it looks like a slightly squashed Pixel Watch 5, it’s hard not to see the similarities between the leaked images of the Fitbit Edge and Google’s Wear OS-toting smartwatch.

While main chassis takes on an oval shape, the bezel around the display looks similarly slim and uniform.

Just like the Fitbit Charge 6, official-looking images suggest the Fitbit Edge will have a hardware button on the side for navigation, alongside the regular touchscreen.

Greater app integration than the Fitbit Air

As you might expect, the main allure of nabbing the Fitbit Edge over the Fitbit Air is likely to be the improved software experience, due in part to that display.

Notably, leaks and rumours suggest you’ll be able to use the Edge for phone notifications and workout states in real time, alongside access to core Google apps such as Maps, Find My Device and YouTube Music.

Of course, you’ll get even more ecosystem access by upgrading all the way to the Pixel Watch 5, but given the Fitbit Edge’s anticipated mid-range price, this makes more sense as an option for those who want an affordable go-between.

A week of battery life

One key bit of information that has leaked regarding the Fitbit Edge is that users can anticipate up to seven days of use from a single charge.

That puts the device right in line with the Fitbit Air, although we’ll have to wait and see until testing to determine whether the Edge can actually live up to that claim. A display will always drain the battery more quickly, and the Pixel Watch 5 only lasted around 48 hours between charges in our testing.

Colourways matching the Pixel 11 range

While hardware upgrades were kept to a minimum, one thing we really enjoyed about the Pixel 11 series is Google’s new lineup of colours.

IF you felt the same way, then you’ll be glad to know that the Fitbit Edge is expected to mimic Google’s current flagship handsets with colourways that look almost identical to the Obsidian, Olive and Canyon options available for the Pixel 11 Pro. If true, that’d making it one of the nicest-looking fitness trackers we’ve seen in a while.

That’s all we know so far about the Fitbit Edge, but make sure to check back soon as more information trickles out. Also, check out our guide to the best fitness trackers to see what it’ll be up against.
