Google’s Pixel Tag tracker might launch tomorrow You Should Know

Google will unveil its Pixel 11 series of phones tomorrow in New York. While just about every detail about them has leaked, we thought we might get a semi-surprise in a new accessory, but that’s now leaked too.

The Pixel Tag was spotted by name in a previous leak, suggesting a rival to the Apple AirTag, but nothing more. Now further details about the Bluetooth tracker as well as an image of it have surfaced, via 9to5Google.

It seems the Google Pixel Tag, to give it its full name, will be Google’s first smart tracker. A strange thing to say considering its Find Hub network. The leaked information gives it the model number GA12506 and the colour is called Fog Light.

The Pixel Tag has an oblong shape similar to that of the Fitbit Air’s main module. We can see a ‘G’ logo and what looks like a notification light, but sadly there isn’t an image of the other side.

While it means we can’t confirm if the device has a button or any indication of a removable battery, we can see that it doesn’t have any built-in method of attaching to a set of keys or similar – presumably you’ll have to buy a case if you want to do that.

It’s also unclear whether the Pixel Tag will come in any other colourways and what the specs are, such as if it features ultra-wideband. We also don’t know the price yet.

Some translated marketing material for the tracker gives some info but nothing unexpected, such as a speaker:

“The Google Pixel Tag smart tracker helps you quickly and reliably locate your lost items using the secure “Find My Device” network. Never waste time searching for your keys, wallet or luggage again.”

“The Google Pixel Tag is a compact, lightweight and durable smart tracker that attaches discreetly to your most important items. Using Google’s extensive and secure “Find My Device” network, you can always check the exact location of your belongings via your smartphone. The tracker is equipped with a loud speaker for easy nearby search and is designed with your privacy and personal data in mind.”

We’ll find out all the details at the Made by Google launch event on 12 August. Google may give away free Pixel Tags with the Pixel 11 phones as an incentive.
