An Apple device fans have waited 15 years for could finally land on October 27 – here’s what’s in store
It’s all go today when it comes to Apple launches. The company will reportedly unveil its long-awaited touchscreen MacBook Pro laptop with an OLED panel “on or around” October 27.
That’s according to man-in-the-know Mark Gurman in his latest reporting for Bloomberg. He reckons the next-generation MacBook Pro will arrive before the end of the month, alongside the first iPad mini with an OLED panel too.
There’s been plenty of reports on both products in recent months. Just this week Gurman reported the model may be “significantly” lighter than the current generation MacBook Pro, with an iPhone-like Dynamic Island replacing the display notch. Further reports, based on the macOS 27.2 beta, seemed to confirm the presence of touch via a press-and-hold animation.
As for the iPad mini, well the OLED display will obviously be the highlight, but Gurman also reports it’ll have a revamped speaker system and a new landscape oriented front-facing camera.
Bloomberg reports that Apple will reveal the products with an “online video presentation” and an “in-person component for the press.” Apple is yet to officially acknowledge the launch event beyond the October 13 showcase expected to be about the smart home.
All in all it promises to be an incredibly busy autumn for Apple, given the arrival of an entirely new iPhone model in the form of the iPhone Duo, the arrival of Siri AI and a suite of new smart home products.
As Tim Cook said in an interview with the venerable British tech journalist David Phelan of the Independent this week, he felt he was leaving new CEO John Ternus with a “wind at his back.”
“And the wind at Apple is very much based on the product cycle. This product cycle feels unbelievably great. The Duo is coming in a few weeks and it’s amazing,” the Apple executive chairman said.
