Samsung could get clever to achieve faster Galaxy S27 Ultra charging

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could pursue a clever new technique to achieve faster charging.

Samsung phones aren’t known for charging particularly quickly. In fact, the firm has been quite far behind rivals for a long time, so it was notable when the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra rocked up with an improved 60W provision.

With reports suggesting the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will pack a larger 5700mAh battery (another area in which Samsung has traditionally lagged), you might think that those charging speeds are set to regress with next year’s model.

You’d be wrong. Or rather, you might well be wrong if a recent report is to be believed. According to X tipster Walle, the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will retain its predecessor’s 60W charging rate, but will nonetheless manage to attain faster wired charging speeds.

How the S27 will charge faster

Samsung will apparently achieve this through a new charging optimisation technique, which will see the Galaxy S27 Ultra able to sustain higher charging speeds (55W to 56W) for longer.

While Samsung rivals such as Xiaomi and Oppo often equip their phones with eye-catching charging speeds in excess of 100W, the truth is that such phones can only hit such rapid rates for a relatively brief amount of time before thermal considerations come into play.

It seems as if Samsung has found a way to extend the length of time the Galaxy S27 Ultra can operate at its own maximum rate (or near enough), thus improving charging speeds.

The tipster claims that this will only make the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s charging speeds “slightly faster” than those of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra – potentially only 2 to 3% quicker.

But any improvement is impressive here, especially given the aforementioned rumours of an increase in battery capacity.
