Samsung’s teaser wasn’t a limited edition Galaxy Z Fold 8 after all

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung posted a video on social media which appeared to tease something new involving J-Hope from BTS and the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Although the pop star has been part of the Z Fold 8 campaign for a while, I took this teaser to mean a limited-edition model.

However, it seems that I was mistaken.

“Behind every performance, a story unfolds. Galaxy Z Fold8 has been with j-hope every step of the way behind the scenes. Stay tuned for the full performance,” said Samsung Mobile in a new post.

The 1-minute 40-second clip is a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot for this ‘performance’, which will show off some of the features of Samsung’s popular iPhone Duo rival, such as Super Steady video stabilisation and My FanCam, as well as the dance skills of J-Hope.

It’s also now clear that Samsung was subtly teasing its new Galaxy Buds On clip-on earbuds to rival the likes of the Motorola Buds Loop and Sony LinkBuds. Some may be excited by this, but perhaps not as much as if this was all for a limited edition phone.

That’s certainly what I thought, and not based on nothing. As I mentioned in my original story on the subject, Samsung collaborated with BTS on a special edition of the Galaxy S20+, which came with BTS branding and extras like stickers.

Perhaps this is still on the cards for the future – after all, the Z Fold 8 has been a big success so far, so Samsung may want to capitalise on that – but we’ll have to wait and see if one materialises.

Something in China…

If you are looking for something more interesting, then it looks like Samsung will be unveiling something special very soon.

Those in China can look forward to the W27, which appears to be a fancy edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra of sorts. Evan Blass has shared leaked images of the device showing it in an eye-catching blue and gold colour scheme called Aura Blue.
