Big-screen Xiaomi tablet with a huge battery on sale

Just £236.55, down from £299 RRP

A tablet with a large display can be useful for watching films, browsing the web and playing games. Battery life is another important feature to consider if you want to use your device throughout the day without having to look for a charger.

The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro (8GB RAM, 256GB storage) is currently available for £236.55 at Amazon, down from its £299 recommended retail price (21% off). This is the tablet’s best price since June and its second-lowest price ever. It reached a record low of £229 in May, but has generally sold for between £249 and its £299 RRP since then.

What the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro has to offer

The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro features a 12.1-inch LCD with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The 2.5K display can show more than 1.07 billion colours, making it suitable for watching videos and viewing photos. Its 16:10 aspect ratio also provides a relatively wide viewing area for films and other video content.

The screen supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This can make scrolling through websites and documents feel smoother than on a conventional 60Hz display. The higher refresh rate can also benefit compatible games, although the actual experience depends on the software and the tablet’s performance.

The tablet uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 mobile platform, paired with 8GB of RAM. You get 256GB of internal storage for apps, games, downloaded films and other files. Xiaomi lists a processor speed of 2.3GHz. One of the tablet’s main features is its 12,000mAh battery. In our review, we also highlighted the battery life.

The Redmi Pad 2 Pro has four speakers and supports Dolby Atmos, which can provide a more immersive sound experience when watching films or playing games. Xiaomi also says that the speakers can reach a maximum volume boosted by up to 300%.

The tablet runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system, based on Android. It supports Wi-Fi connectivity and offers compatibility with devices such as keyboards, mice, cameras and external displays. This gives you options for using it beyond media consumption. But don’t expect it to be a high-end laptop replacement.

Why this offer is worth it

At £236.55, the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro costs £62.45 less than its £299 RRP. The price history makes the deal particularly interesting: although it does not beat the £229 record low from May, it is the tablet’s lowest price since June and its second-lowest price overall.

We also tested the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro at Tech Advisor, albeit the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Our review praised its excellent battery life, quad speakers and optional matte display, as well as its affordable price. We also highlighted face unlock as a useful extra. However, the cameras are basic, the screen brightness is limited and the processor is not powerful enough to make the tablet a convincing replacement for a high-end laptop.

The version on sale at Amazon comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, giving you more memory and twice the storage capacity than the model we tested. That makes the deal particularly appealing if you want extra room for apps, games and downloaded content.

Customer feedback is encouraging overall. Buyers praise the tablet’s value for money and battery life, with one customer reporting that it can go several days without charging. Feedback on performance is more mixed. One reviewer says the tablet handles demanding games effortlessly, while another reports problems loading Amazon Shopping and Netflix.
