BYD flash charging network to hit 10,000 stations on August 28, doubling in 5 months You Should Know

BYD (HKEX: 1211) will bring its flash charging network in China to 10,000 stations on August 28, taking it halfway toward its annual target.
The milestone station’s completion ceremony will be held at 9:00 am Beijing Time on Friday at the Longhua flagship flash charging station in Shenzhen, the company said Thursday on Weibo.
The milestone shows BYD is accelerating the buildout of its own charging network to support sales of new models equipped with its second-generation Blade Battery.
BYD had 5,000 flash charging stations in operation in China as of April 1. That means the network will have doubled in fewer than 5 months.
The company had built 7,018 flash charging stations as of June 30, according to its latest available data.
Still, BYD needs to add another 10,000 stations over the next 4 months or so to meet its target of having 20,000 in operation by year-end.
That means it would need to complete about 80 stations a day from August 29 through year-end, requiring a further acceleration in the roll-out.
The next-generation flash charger BYD unveiled in March delivers up to 1,500 kW through a single connector, with each unit equipped with 2 connectors.
Paired with the second-generation Blade Battery, the system can charge a vehicle’s battery from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes, BYD said at the time.
The company said then that it planned to build 20,000 flash charging stations in China by year-end. It will work with Chinese charging-network operators to develop 18,000 of them, while the remaining 2,000 will be deployed along highways.
BYD also signed a framework agreement with Sinopec in June to use the energy giant’s network of more than 30,000 integrated energy service stations to accelerate the roll-out.
The flash charging stations will also be open to EVs from other brands, though actual charging speeds will depend on each vehicle’s capabilities.
BYD also plans to roll out its flash charging network overseas by the end of 2026. It has deployed its first batch of stations in the UK and plans to install 300 there by year-end.
