Here’s bYD offers closer look at Qin Max, flagship of its hot-selling Qin family

- The Qin Max is the flagship of the Qin family, positioned above the Qin L, and will be offered in battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
Lu Tian, general manager of BYD‘s (HKEX: 1211) Dynasty lineup sales division, shared more images of the company’s new Qin Max midsize sedan on Weibo on Monday, revealing its complete exterior design.
The vehicle shown this time features a new light-pink paint finish. Lu, however, still did not disclose its launch date or pricing details.
Lu announced the Qin Max last week, describing it as a new midsize sedan developed by BYD for younger consumers and saying it would support the company’s latest flash charging technology.
Flash charging is BYD’s term for its latest ultra-fast charging technology. The company unveiled its Super e-Platform in March 2025, supporting megawatt-level flash charging with peak power of up to 1,000 kW.
BYD introduced a new generation of the technology in March this year, delivering up to 1,500 kW of charging power through a single connector. It can charge vehicles equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes.
The Qin Max will be the top-tier model in the Qin family and will sit above the Qin L, Lu said last week.
The Qin Max previously appeared in filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with both battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions listed.
The vehicle measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, according to previously released regulatory filings.
For comparison, the Qin L measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.
The battery electric Qin Max is powered by a BYD electric motor with peak output of either 240 kW, or 322 hp, or 120 kW.
The plug-in hybrid version uses a system combining a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor. The engine delivers maximum power of 74 kW, while the motor produces up to 175 kW.
The filings also show that the battery electric Qin Max may be offered with either “Da Qin” or “Qin Ultra” rear badging.
The Qin family currently includes the Qin Plus and Qin L, both of which are available in battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions. The addition of the Qin Max will expand the lineup to 3 models.
The Qin series is one of BYD’s best-selling vehicle families, with sales of 661,090 units in 2025, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Its sales, however, have declined significantly this year. Deliveries fell 66.17% year-on-year to 14,900 units in June.
In the first half of the year, Qin series sales totaled 149,174 units, down 45.62% from a year earlier.

The launch of the Qin Max is seen as an important step by BYD to revive sales of the key product family.
With flash charging technology and a larger body, the model could help the Qin family appeal to a broader range of consumers.
