BYD (HKEX: 1211) may launch the first MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) under its Ocean lineup by year-end, further expanding its product portfolio.

Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, disclosed the plan in an interview with Weibo automotive blogger @向北不断电 on Sunday. He said the MPV would be a “one-of-a-kind offering” in the market.

Zhang did not disclose the new model’s name, specifications or pricing. He also did not say whether it would be the production version of the Ocean-V concept.

BYD unveiled the Ocean-V concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April, signaling a possible direction for the Ocean lineup’s MPV.

The concept combines off-road capability, camping features and in-car entertainment. Its cabin has no physical buttons, while the center screen can slide sideways.

In movie mode, the steering wheel retracts and a large screen flips out of the dashboard. In camping mode, the 2 rows of seats can face each other or fold flat to form a bed.

BYD said at the time that some of the Ocean-V’s designs and features would gradually be adopted in production models under the Ocean lineup. However, the company has yet to confirm any connection between the concept and the MPV expected by year-end.

BYD Group’s MPVs currently on sale mainly include the Xia under its Dynasty lineup, the D9 from its Denza sub-brand, and the Linghui M9, which is based on the Xia and targets the mobility services market.

The 2026 Xia was launched last November and is powered by a plug-in hybrid system comprising a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a front-mounted electric motor. It offers CLTC battery-only ranges of 100 kilometers and 218 kilometers.

Xia sales have fallen sharply this year. The model delivered 1,300 units in July, down 76.7% year-on-year. Deliveries in the first 7 months totaled 10,922 units, down 79.5%, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
