Delivery results among major automakers in China were mixed in July 2026, with several companies reporting weakness while a few others continued to set records.

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO), Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) all posted month-on-month declines, while Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) and Zeekr reached new highs.

Huawei-backed HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) and Xiaomi EV also delivered subdued performances in July.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) sold 419,211 NEVs in July, representing a year-on-year increase of 21.76% and a month-on-month increase of 3.90%.

This marks BYD's highest monthly sales figure so far this year, though it remains slightly below the 420,398 units sold in December of last year.

Overseas operations continued to serve as the primary growth engine. Overseas sales of passenger cars and pickup trucks reached a record high of 179,841 units in July, up 124.3% year-on-year. This figure accounted for about 43% of total sales for the month, remaining largely unchanged from June's proportion.

Based on these figures, BYD's domestic sales in July were about 239,370 units, down about 9% year-on-year — a decline that narrowed significantly compared to previous months.

BYD sold 419,211 NEVs at wholesale in July, up 21.76% year-on-year, the third consecutive month of annual growth.

Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) sold a total of 250,161 vehicles in July, up 5.23% year-on-year and 3.89% month-on-month.

The company's overseas sales in July totaled 106,663 units, surging 202.40% year-on-year and 3.68% month-on-month, setting a new monthly record.

This marks the second consecutive month that Geely Auto's exports have exceeded 100,000 units. Cumulative exports for the first seven months of this year totaled 580,891 units, up 164.78% year-on-year.

The domestic market, however, remained sluggish. Geely Auto's domestic sales in July totaled 143,498 units, down 29.12% year-on-year but up 4.04% month-on-month.

Geely Auto sold 106,663 vehicles overseas in July, topping 100,000 for the second consecutive month.

Of these, new energy vehicle (NEV) sales totaled 129,067 units, up 97.5% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month that sales exceeded 100,000 units.

Chery Group exported 202,533 vehicles in July, becoming the first Chinese automaker to exceed 200,000 units in a single month, a 70.1% increase year-on-year.

The figure was below dealer expectations cited by Deutsche Bank in a July 21 research note. Dealers had expected Xpeng's July deliveries to reach 45,000 units, saying constrained supplies of the Mona L03 were the main limiting factor during the month.

The year-on-year decline narrowed from 14.84% in June. It marked the company's third consecutive monthly decline from a year earlier, though the pace of contraction slowed significantly.

Li Auto's production schedule was disrupted in July. Li Xinyang, head of the company's product line, said on July 27 that a temporary fluctuation in headlight supplies reduced production of the Li i6 battery electric SUV by about 4,000 units from the original plan in mid-to-late July.

Li Auto delivered 30,468 vehicles in July, down 0.86% year-on-year, better than June's 14.84% drop.

It marked the company's fourth consecutive monthly delivery record and its fifth straight month-on-month increase. Deliveries rose 8.45% from 93,376 units in June.

Leapmotor delivered 457,754 vehicles in the first 7 months of the year, up 68.42% year-on-year.

Leapmotor's July global deliveries reached 101,267 units, up 102% year-on-year and 8.45% from June.

The figure marked a new monthly record for the brand and its fourth consecutive record. Zeekr delivered 35,169 vehicles in June.

However, month-on-month growth narrowed to 1.90%, the lowest since March. That suggests Zeekr's growth momentum is beginning to moderate after several months of rapid expansion.

Zeekr's July deliveries rose 111% year-on-year and increased 1.9% from June.

HIMA delivered 286,000 vehicles from January through July, up 13.7% year-on-year.

Xiaomi EV said its July deliveries continued to exceed 30,000 units.

It marked the fourth consecutive month that deliveries remained above the 30,000-unit mark and the fourth straight month in which the company used the same wording. As before, Xiaomi EV did not disclose an exact figure or provide a breakdown by model.

Detailed monthly delivery figures are expected to be released later by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Notably, Xiaomi EV delivered 30,452 vehicles in July last year. That means year-on-year growth would be limited if the actual July figure was only slightly above 30,000 units.

The brand delivered 126,675 vehicles from January through July, up 82.55% year-on-year.

SAIC-GM-Wuling recorded global sales of 120,050 vehicles in July, including 72,695 new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Volkswagen Anhui delivered 2,149 vehicles in July, up 170% year-on-year.

NEV retail penetration is expected to reach about 64.5% in July, rising further from June.
