A Look at baT Auction Success Story: Buster82’s Super Beetle, Ready for Summer

BaT member Buster82 won a 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible for his wife from KSC813 in a November 2025 BaT auction, and he recently wrote in with an update:

My wife had owned a Super Beetle many years ago. I decided to take her back in time with this recent purchase. As the bid amount grew, I had to show her the auction to make sure that she would be happy if I was ultimately the highest bidder.

In the end, we won and contacted the seller. She was the nicest young lady, willing to work with our pickup schedule. Soon, we were on our way for an overnight adventure. We rented a trailer and hauled the Super Beetle back to Branson, Missouri, from Iowa after the seller insisted on buying us breakfast at her favorite local cafe.

The car was in excellent condition and better than expected for a 1979 model. It’s been too cold to put the top down, but we have been driving it and enjoying the looks we get from everyone. The entire BaT experience was great—very easy and fast. I am watching out for my dream car to show up on BaT and will not hesitate to make another purchase.

The Bug is in my garage waiting for warmer weather, so the top can go down, and my wife can feel the wind in her hair!

Thankfully that warmer weather is now here, so we hope you’re out and about with the ragtop dropped!

If you have a Success Story about a car you’ve bought or sold on BaT, please send a few lines and pictures (or a video) to community.content@bringatrailer.com, and we’ll send you a $50 credit to the BaT Gear Store when your story posts to the site.

We love to hear from satisfied BaT buyers and sellers, and a Success Story feature is a great addition to any car’s history when you’re ready to sell.

This Success Story comes to us from BaT member dustydangler24, who won this Porsche 930 Turbo Slant Nose from FinestVehiclesTraded in a December 2025 BaT auction:
I had been waiting a long time for the right slant-nose to come up for sale, and when this 1988 911 Turbo cabriolet M505 finished in Grand Prix White over Lipstick Red appeared on Bring a Trailer, I immediately knew it was the one. There was simply no way I wasn’t going to win it. A bunch of bids came in early, and I’m not going to lie—I had a moment of “uh-oh, this may get away from me.” But it landed right where I expected it to, and the rest was history.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: Bigmotorssmallcar’s Transatlantic Sportomatic Triomphe You Should Know

BaT member Bigmotorssmallcar last wrote to us about his love for Fjord Blue BMWs —specifically his 1974 3.0CS. He’s back with another Success Story, this time on the 1973 Porsche 911S Sportomatic coupe that he won from quuentinleblondmecanicus in a June 2025 BaT auction; he recently took delivery of the car from France.
I was not in the market for another project. Like many do, I was perusing BaT late one June evening when I was struck by the color combo on this F-body 911S—Gemini Metallic Blue over a beige leather interior. And it was a Sportomatic. If it were a five-speed car, I would’ve ignored it, but a Sportomatic? It was a wounded bird that I simply couldn’t resist. I immediately drilled into the gallery and went straight to the undercarriage photos—always where the truth is told.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: Corrado Dreams Come True

BaT member ardee2002 won this 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC VR6 from BaT Local Partner lromanosky in a November 2025 BaT auction, and he wrote in to tell us about it:
After 35 years of waiting, I finally won a 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC VR6. When I won this 41k-km example in December 2025, it was fulfilling a Gen-X dream. Born in the late 1960s, I grew up in the peak malaise era, followed by the rise of Japanese sports coupes from the 1980s. Being 6’4″, I never seemed to fit in contemporary Integras and 240SXs, so my university car was a Mk2 Golf—basic, sturdy, and fun. I developed a love for German engineering that never left me.

  • A Look at baT Success Story: The Designer’s Designer Car

We last heard from BaT member ABikePeddler in December 2021 for his 10 Questions interview, itself following a three-for-one Success Story published in July of that year. He’s back with a new story about his fourth BaT Auction win: a 2001 Audi TT roadster that he purchased from MichaelDiTullo in March 2025:
Bring a Trailer’s community is a swirling vortex of people from all demographics, from heads of industry to entertainment personalities to us average Joes—it covers the full gamut. And within the huge expanse, there are also stars. The elite. These BaT celestial bodies, sitting in the shadows and hidden behind a username. They are the driving force behind many of the vehicles we dream about—the ones we get to actually experience, if we are lucky. These people are the designers and engineers who make said objects burst to life. Getting to meet a vehicle designer is akin to a Bible salesman getting to meet Moses in the eyes of the automotive enthusiast, so you can rightfully forgive me for flipping the script here a bit as I try to describe one of my most memorable automotive purchases.

Our latest Success Story comes from BaT member strakaj, who won this 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon from PNearing in a November 2025 BaT auction:
Patience is a virtue—I’m sure you’ve heard your mother say the phrase many times. Well, I’m here to tell you it’s true. I’ve been a member of the BaT community for a number of years, browsing the numerous vehicles listed on the website.

  • Here’s baT Auction Success Story: BMW Z3 1.9 Goes High & Dry

Last year, BaT member mlc66 and his wife completed the High & Dry Rally in the 1998 BMW Z3 1.9 that he won from burtsmith1600 in an October 2024 BaT auction. He recently wrote to us all about his experience:
At the start of 2024, I promised a friend that my wife and I would join his vintage car tour across California and Nevada that fall. October came around and it was two weeks from the start of his “High & Dry Tour” and, unfortunately, my 1998 Subaru Impreza “STI” conversion was woefully short of being ready to run. What should I do? After a short budget negotiation with my wife, we hatched a plan to buy “an interesting old car” specifically for the event. We set the budget at no more than $10,000 and compiled a short list of “interesting” cars with three pedals, which included Miatas, MGs, Triumphs, and an assortment of BMW E10s, E21s and E30s. Ultimately, I placed the winning bid on a 1998 BMW Z3 1.9.
