A couple of weeks ago, we shared Car and Driver’s first review of the Porsche 928, so this week we’re chasing it with something related—sorta. Here is Road & Track’s feature on the outrageous “Super Rabbit” from their December 1979 issue, written by G. Leyrer and contributing artist Mark Stehrenberger with photography by Hans Peter Seufert. The subject at hand was a Golf/928 mashup that required very little sanity and a whole lot of work.

Günter Artz was a visionary occasionally branded a madman, and for good reason. Throughout the 1970s and ’80s, Artz and his Hannover-based team at Autohaus Nordstadt delivered a string of wild creations, including a Porsche Carrera-powered Beetle. At the time, the Golf 928 (which had grown several waist sizes compared to a stock Rabbit) was his latest opus.

So we’re exercising our Editorial Privilege this week and picking the nomination that stood out to us the most—the Pontiac Fiero. @Mike_Breinin was the first one there, but seeing as he’s a multi-time QotW winner, we wanted to spread the wealth. So we’re handing the prize to runner-up, @40fordlover.

Normally, being “over the hill” isn’t usually a compliment, but daily driving an older (never say “obsolete”) car takes some serious chutzpah. So this week, we’re choosing the absolute oldest vehicle still being driven today. Right now, in 2025, BaT member @fomocoguy‘s daily driver is a prewar car from 1940, making him this week’s winner:
“Still driving my 1940 Plymouth every day. Can always count on it now that I’ve installed an 8-volt battery. Not much to go wrong with it that sidelines it. And it’s a hoot to drive, always a conversation with someone at every stop I make.”

Detroit. Stuttgart. Modena. To these mechanical metropoles should be added the town of Hammondsport, New York, in the state’s Finger Lakes region. There, at the southern tip of Keuka Lake, a man named Glen Curtiss built and raced some of the world’s first performance motorcycles and airplanes, transforming a sleepy rural town into a capital of industry for the first half of the 20th century. The Glenn Curtiss Museum presents this story through an impressive collection of winged and wheeled vehicles that can be viewed up close and personal.
