Deepal launches updated S05 electric SUV, starting at about $17,000 — Explained

Deepal, the electric vehicle (EV) brand of Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625), officially launched the updated S05 on Thursday, bringing an annual refresh to one of its key volume models.
The electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) is offered in 5 variants, with official prices ranging from 119,900 yuan ($17,660) to 151,900 yuan, matching the pre-sales prices announced on July 30.
Limited-time prices range from 115,900 yuan ($17,070) to 144,900 yuan, representing discounts of 4,000 yuan to 7,000 yuan from the official prices and coming in below the pre-sales levels.
The model is divided into 2 main lineups based on driving range: the 520 and the 620.
The 520 lineup has 3 variants, with limited-time prices of 115,900 yuan, 122,900 yuan and 134,900 yuan, respectively.
The 620 lineup has 2 variants, with limited-time prices of 132,900 yuan and 144,900 yuan, respectively.
The top-end variant in each lineup is equipped with LiDAR, while the other versions do not have the sensor.
The S05 measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. It offers 492 liters of rear cargo space and a 159-liter frunk.
The updated S05 is available exclusively as a battery electric vehicle, powered by a single rear-mounted motor producing up to 200 kW (268 hp). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.28 seconds.
Both battery options are supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), with capacities of 56.12 kWh and 68.82 kWh, providing CLTC ranges of 520 km and 620 km, respectively.
All variants support 3C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in no more than 15 minutes.
The 2 LiDAR-equipped variants feature a 128-channel LiDAR from Hesai (NASDAQ: HSAI), which works with 26 other sensors to form the vehicle’s perception hardware suite.
The vehicles are powered by 2 J6M driving-assistance chips from Horizon Robotics (HKEX: 9660), delivering combined computing power of 256 TOPS and supporting assisted-driving functions in urban areas, on highways and during parking.
The S05 was originally launched in October 2024, with the previous version starting at 116,900 yuan.
Changan established the Deepal brand in 2022. Its current lineup includes the SL03, L06 and L07 sedans, as well as the S05, S07, S09 and G318 SUVs.
