  • BYD continued to dominate China’s NEV export market in July with 173,721 vehicles, while Tesla China exported 66,330 units.
  • In the overall passenger vehicle export market, Chery ranked first in July with a 21.7% share, followed by BYD and Geely.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) remained China’s largest exporter of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July, while Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) China’s exports jumped sharply, lifting it to third place.

BYD’s passenger NEV exports were 173,721 units in July, up 121.7% year-on-year and 1.7% from June. The company ranked first with a 32.2% share, though that was down from 34.2% in June.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) revealed the figures in a monthly sales ranking report on Wednesday.

Chery (HKEX: 9973) ranked second with 82,768 NEV exports, up 195.4% year-on-year and 12.1% from June, for a 15.3% share.

Tesla China exported 66,330 vehicles in July, up 83.4% from June and 143.2% year-on-year. The US electric vehicle (EV) maker contributed 12.3% of China’s passenger NEV exports, rising to third place from fourth in June.

Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) slipped to fourth with 60,584 units, up 591.8% year-on-year but down 1.6% from June, for an 11.2% share.

Changan Automobile (SZSE: 000625) ranked fifth with 26,200 units, up 74.0% from June, while SAIC Passenger Vehicle was sixth with 24,778 units, down 19.0% from June.

Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) exported 17,569 vehicles in July, up 281.5% year-on-year but down 16.3% from June, ranking seventh with a 3.3% share.

GWM (HKEX: 2333) ranked ninth with 10,162 units, and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) was tenth with 9,700 units, up 28.8% from June.

In January-July, BYD’s NEV exports were 943,051 units, up 80.8% year-on-year, ranking first with a 34.0% share.

Chery exported 373,069 NEVs in January-July, up 170.7% year-on-year, ranking second with a 13.5% share. Geely was third with 336,001 units, up 599.7% year-on-year, for a 12.1% share.

Tesla China exported 295,324 vehicles in the same period, up 130.1% year-on-year, ranking fourth with a 10.7% share.

SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked fifth with 149,554 units, and Leapmotor was sixth with 113,863 units, up 355.8% year-on-year. Xpeng ranked tenth with 41,299 units and a 1.5% share.

In the overall passenger vehicle export market, which includes conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, Chery ranked first in July with 199,092 units, up 68.8% year-on-year and 6.0% from June, for a 21.7% share.

BYD was second with 173,721 units and an 18.9% share, while Geely was third with 106,220 units and an 11.6% share.

SAIC Passenger Vehicle ranked fourth with 73,563 units, and Tesla China was fifth with 66,330 units and a 7.2% share.

Changan and GWM ranked sixth and seventh with 55,678 units and 53,117 units, respectively, while Leapmotor was tenth with a 1.9% share.

In China’s overall passenger vehicle exports in January-July, Chery ranked first with 1,130,649 units, up 70.6% year-on-year, for a 21.9% share.
