A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“In 1964 this car appeared in my neighborhood in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I was an impressionable fifteen-year-old and Dr. Lane was daily driving this 904 all over town. One day I chased him on my bicycle to inquire about the car. He generously let me sit in the car and told me about his racing plans. He traded in a Ferrari 250 (SWB) to obtain this Porsche. Dr. Lane was a renaissance man- brain surgeon, commadore at Lauderdale Yacht Club, pilot and owner of twin engine airplane, SCCA racer,…”

“Oh hello, old friend! I managed Aston Martin Newport Beach for 6+ years, I spec’d this car personally, and I sold it to the original owner. Used to see him driving in Newport/Laguna all the time. I don’t work there anymore, so I don’t have access to the service records, but my memory was that the original owner did the scheduled maintenance on time, and the remainder of the service visits you see on the carfax are for tires. I seem to remember that he didn’t have the best luck with…”

These really are spectacular cars in every respect. Once you drive one, you never forget it. @seller needs no introduction here so bid with confidence. These have been woefully undervalued compared with similar era cars, but I believe all that is about to change as more people wake up to US landed examples like this, and the amazing amount of fun one can…”

“In August 1981 at the Laguna Seca raceway, Briggs Cunningham was the guest of honor. He brought a good number of the original race cars to the track for that weekend and invited all the drivers and mechanics that had driven for him over the years for a weekend reunion. My father was one of those drivers. He and I rode our motorcycles from the Midwest out to California, timing it so that he could be there for the commemorative weekend. Mr. Cunningham assigned the C4 roadster to Fred Wacker to be…”

“When you are doing one of these cars, NEVER bond the bare steel cage without replacing the zinc chromate primer. That is a valid and strong corrosion inhibitor, used in aviation since the 1930’s. Today the cheap and easy way is to go to Aircraft Spuce and order the primer in rattlecan, but for a restoration of a C2 coupe, there is a hundred year upgrade. Consolidated Coatings of Riverside CA makes aircraft polyurethane in “yellow zinc” and “green zinc” colors for WWII aircraft restoration.…”

“This 599 is an earlier production as in the later production for 2007 the ceramic brakes became standard. Also, Ferrari jacked up the base price from $258k to $321k base price. Significantly increased the cost. These cars are appreciating fast. F-1 transmission is a very nice transmission in my opinion even though general public prefers the clutch version. Good luck.”

    “A layman’s view.
In 1987, at the age of 27, I quit my job and travelled to Europe for my 1st time for a 6-month adventure. After skiing a few areas in the Alps, I made my way north, as far as Bergen, Norway. Summer had arrived, and I wanted to have some beach fun.
The section on France in the Frommer’s Guide had many pages on the Mediterranean Coast, but few on the Atlantic.
I decided on a road less travelled, the Atlantic. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered a magnificent area…”

The E model has smaller numbers, but probably is the best driving street machine out of all the early cars. 1972 model to boot! For a little background, this car was purchased brand new by an airline 747 captain living in Tiburon, CA. Years later I find myself working for that same airline.
