  • The new-generation IM L6 comes in three regular variants and two Prof. Jimmy Choo bespoke limited editions, with a maximum all-electric range of 850 kilometers.
  • IM Motors calls it the world’s first mass-produced vehicle co-branded with footwear designer Jimmy Choo, with the first batch limited to 1,000 units.

SAIC Motor‘s electric vehicle (EV) brand IM Motors unveiled the all-new IM L6 on Tuesday, and opened pre-sales for the sedan.

The model is offered in three regular variants, with pre-sales list prices ranging from 229,900 yuan to 279,900 yuan and prices after pre-sales incentives ranging from 219,900 yuan ($32,380) to 269,900 yuan.

IM Motors also introduced the Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Edition in two variants, with prices after pre-sales incentives of 234,900 yuan and 249,900 yuan, respectively.

Only 1,000 slots are available in the first batch of the limited edition. Of those, 100 were released on the day of the pre-sales launch, with another 100 to be made available at 10:00 am each day from August 19 through August 27, while supplies last.

IM Motors announced on August 7 that Malaysian-born footwear designer Jimmy Choo had been appointed bespoke design master for the new-generation L6. The brand said it is the world’s first mass-produced vehicle co-branded with Choo.

The limited edition retains the same powertrain and chassis hardware as the regular models, with changes focused mainly on design. These include six exterior colors, a crystal-inlaid rear badge, and a bespoke blue cabin inspired by the blue satin shoes Choo designed for Princess Diana.

The new L6 measures 4,924 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,474 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.

The entire lineup is built on IM Motors’ new-generation NEO electrical and electronic architecture and uses an 800-volt high-voltage platform. Maximum charging power is 396 kW, allowing the vehicle to add 580 kilometers of range in 15 minutes.

The Max and Pro Max variants are single-motor rear-wheel-drive models, with motor outputs of 245 kW and 300 kW, respectively. They are equipped with 76-kWh and 93-kWh battery packs and have CLTC ranges of 725 kilometers and 850 kilometers.

The flagship all-wheel-drive Ultra has a combined output of 500 kW and peak torque of 800 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.74 seconds. It comes with a 103-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC range of 840 kilometers.

On the chassis side, all variants come standard with a fully drive-by-wire chassis, including Continental’s MK C2 brake-by-wire system and four-wheel steer-by-wire. The rear wheels can turn by up to 18 degrees in either direction, giving the sedan a turning radius of just 4.39 meters.

Its driver-assistance system was jointly developed by IM Motors and Momenta (HKEX: 6880), incorporates Momenta’s world model and supports NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) without relying on high-definition maps.

The L6 is part of IM Motors’ recent product offensive. The brand launched its flagship LS9 large extended-range SUV last November and introduced the LS8 mid-to-large extended-range SUV on April 16, with the latter starting at 249,800 yuan.

Competition in the battery electric sedan market, however, is far more intense than in the extended-range SUV segment, with numerous domestic automakers as well as the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 competing in the 200,000-yuan to 300,000-yuan price range.

The LS8, starting at 249,800 yuan ($36,600), secured 8,000 firm orders within 60 minutes.
