    06/03/2026 Update: BaT user B.Fryk wrote to us in May 2023 about the 2015 911 Targa 4S that he won from BenKeith in a March 2023 BaT auction, and today he’s back to give us a post-road-trip update after scuttling his original plan to “fly and drive.”
    B.Fryk writes:
    In March 2023, I placed the winning bid on one of my dream cars: a low-mileage 2015 911 Targa 4S. It departed from NorCal for its new life in the Motor City. Since it was early March, the summer tires didn’t allow for a cross-country drive home, so onto the hauler she went. I recently made up for this by completing my “epic trip west,” a 6,200-mile road trip to the West Coast and back. I appreciate that each owner is free to drive their Porsche as little or as much as desired. I personally leaned into driving the car a lot, as Dr. Porsche intended. Looking toward my October 2025 calendar, my high school reunion in Pasadena was coming up one weekend, followed by a family wedding in Livingston, Montana, the next. With family in the Bay Area, it was the perfect opportunity for a road trip. A break in my schedule allowed me a two-and-a-half-week trip West!

    The Isle of Man, home of the world’s wildest motorcycle race, welcomed road racing cars to the Snaefell Mountain Course for the Merlin Manx Classic starting in 1989. This clip hails from the 1992 running, and highlights a DB4GT Zagato driven by the late gentleman racer Nick Cussons. This particular Zagato—famously known as 2 VEV—lived a short-yet-dramatic early racing career; initially raced by the legendary Jim Clark, it was also one of three cars rebuilt to lighter DP209 specification following the first of its three lifetime crashes. Fortunately, it was fixed up each time and continued to deliver the drama:

Every S7 is special, but this one being modified to “11” by Nth Moto (probably the best bespoke high performance shop in the country) makes it even moreso. If anyone is hesitant about this being modified, don’t be. Whether it’s Viper, Ford GT, Lambo, etc anything Nth Moto touches turns out exceptional and their quality of work is better than OEM.     I first saw the Renault R5 Turbo on the cover of CAR magazine’s July 1980 issue at a bookstore that specialized in foreign magazines. Despite being an enthusiast, I had never seen anything like it. I pored over the article and aspired to own one.

    “That Sport Top is an incredibly rare accessory. Not many were sold and few have survived in good condition. I’ve only seen one other intact one. The Model Prefix indicates it was built as a Utility trimmed Travel Top but somewhere along the line, the bulkhead and Sport Top were added. I wonder if it was the original owner. Interesting 800!”

    “My 66 Shelby is a 4 speed, my 65 cobra is a manual, but I have owned two 67 500 Automatics and 3 67 350 4 Speeds. I loved my 67 small block cars, but nothing like putting a 500 in drive and just cruise. Maybe I’m just getting old, but I did catch myself driving the auto 500s more than the manuals.”

    “What a legacy this car has… Bruce McLaren, who “finished second behind Jack Brabham”… those are names I read about in Car & Driver as a kid… cars were named after these men! And the tracks: Silverstone, Riverside, Laguna Seca… storied venues all.
    This is a piece of history, never to be repeated. That it was powered by the little aluminum Buick engine, fed by a quartet of Webers is like icing on the cake. Once again, the offerings on BaT never fail to surprise and amaze.”
