Tamil Nadu halts new private bus permits amid rising congestion

The transport department will use bodycam footage to verify complaints of misconduct, particularly those involving women passengers, before initiating action.

According to UPSRTC, over 9.26 lakh women and companions availed the scheme's benefits on August 27. This included more than 6.03 lakh women and over 3.22 lakh companions.

Both states aim to add new routes and expand services, especially across border districts, under their interstate transport pact.

The Delhi Transport Departmenthas issued fresh directives mandating safety systems like VLTDs, panic buttons and stricter staff verification across all buses, including those from other states.

Nearly 30 of 48 buses on the Barasat-Howrah route have switched amid rising costs, revenue leakage and crew-related concerns.

To enhance safety, transport departments are ramping up inspections of private tourist buses in various districts, enforcing new regulations that include mandatory GPS tracking and thorough character checks for both drivers and conductors.
